While this is a below-average matchup, as the Vikings gave up the sixth-fewest receiving yards to running backs last season (464), Swift should still be able to exceed this low 16.5-receiving yard line. Last season, the back averaged 22.7 receiving yards per game and he surpassed 16.5 receiving yards in 10 of his 17 games. When Swift faced Minnesota in Week 12, he caught three of his four receiving targets for 36 yards. Usage-wise, Swift saw a target on 14% of his routes and he ran a route on 52% of his team’s dropbacks last season.
Swift remains Chicago’s top back for this season and the Bears are looking to be one of the league’s top offenses under new head coach Ben Johnson, who is coming over from the Lions, where he thrived as the team’s offensive coordinator. Detroit led the NFL in scoring under Johnson last season with 33.1 PPG and the Lions notably targeted running backs 19% of the time.
Swift could have a career-best season with Johnson at the helm and another plus for Swift is that target hog Keenan Allen is now with the Chargers. The slot receiver led Chicago with a 27.3% target share last season and in the two games Swift played with Allen inactive last season, Swift was targeted on 15% of his routes and he finished with 22 and 24 receiving yards in those contests.
