He has been playing fantastic tennis all season, winning the Australian Open and Wimbledon, as well as making the French Open Final, where he had several match points before blowing a big lead to Carlos Alcaraz. Sinner is now in the US Open semifinals, and he has dominated his way through the competition. He has only dropped one set through five matches, and he has eviscerated his opponents in these matches. His opening round opponent won just four games, his second round opponent won seven games, his Round of 16 opponent won three games and World No. 10 Lorenzo Musetti won just seven games in the quarterfinals. Sinner seems untouchable at the moment, and is looking to become the fifth man in the Open Era to win the Australian Open, Wimbledon and the US Open in the same year.
Auger Aliassime Preview
Felix Auger Aliassime has had an incredible US Open. The Canadian was considered one of the rising stars in the sport when he made the 2019 Wimbledon quarterfinals and US Open semifinals, then the 2020 Australian Open quarterfinals in consecutive Grand Slams at just 21 years old. However, he lost his game over the last couple of years, falling down the world rankings. Auger Aliassime had not even made it out of the second round at a Grand Slam in his past five attempts, heading into the US Open. He played some solid tennis in Cincinnati heading into this tournament, then caught fire over the last several rounds. En route to the semifinals, he has defeated World No. 3 Alexander Zverev, World No. 15 Andrey Rublev and World No. 8 Alex de Minaur. He has played phenomenal tennis, taking down all of these highly-ranked opponents. However, Jannik Sinner is on another level than even those top players.
Sinner vs. Auger Aliassime Pick
These two players have faced each other three times before, with Felix Auger Aliassime winning two of the three matchups. However, both of Auger Aliassime’s wins came in 2022, when he was in better form and Sinner was nowhere near his current form. The two played most recently just 22 days ago in the Cincinnati Open quarterfinals. Sinner dominated Auger Aliassime, 6-0, 6-2. A similar result could be seen in the US Open semifinals. Auger Aliassime has done a phenomenal job to get this far, but Sinner is not only the best player in the world; he is playing some of the best tennis anyone has played in the history of the sport.
My best bet is for Jannik Sinner to cover the spread of 7.5 games against Felix Auger Aliassime. Other than the Round of 16, where he dropped a set, Sinner has comfortably covered this spread in his other four matches. Sinner crushed Auger Aliassime when they faced off in Cincinnati, and he should be able to replicate the same level of dominance in this match to get to his fifth consecutive Grand Slam final.
