The Rangers’ six-game winning streak was snapped by the Diamondbacks on Tuesday, but with Seattle’s loss in Tampa Bay, Texas remains just 1.5 games back of the final Wild Card slot in the American League. The irony here is obvious, as the last time the Rangers snuck into the postseason, they defeated this same Arizona squad to win a World Series.

Rangers vs. Diamondbacks prediction, preview
Remember when no one traded for Zac Gallen at the deadline because he’d been absolutely terrible for the first four months of the season? Well, things have turned around for the soon-to-be free agent. In Gallen’s past six starts, the veteran has pitched to a 2.57 ERA with a 3.42 FIP across 35.0 innings. Now, some of this success can be attributed to a .255 opponent BABIP, but in reality, the reasoning for Gallen’s turn-around is quite clear. The 30-year-old stopped walking four opponents per game and he also mostly stopped giving up home runs. Wild how this pitching thing works, right? Still, if a red flag remains, it’s the fact that Gallen’s strikeout rate is a paltry 19.7% in this span of time. He’s looked a lot better, yet I’m still not sure how much I trust him.
Jack Leiter is actually in a very similar boat. While the former second-overall pick has allowed two earned runs or fewer in nine of his past 11 outings, Leiter’s 12.4% walk rate is the highest mark in MLB among pitchers with at least 40 innings thrown since the beginning of July. At some point, those free passes are going to come back to haunt the rookie. Not to mention that fact that Leiter also possesses an 11th percentile opponent barrel rate (10.9%), so when regression does hit, it’ll likely come in the form of a three-run homer. If you were wondering why Leiter was outperforming his 4.66 xERA by nearly a full run in 2025, look no further.
This Diamondbacks’ lineup isn’t a great matchup, either. Despite trading both Eugenio Suarez and Josh Naylor at the deadline, Arizona ranks sixth in ISO (.191) and 10th in wOBA (.328) over the past 30 days. A recent injury to Loudres Gurriel (knee) isn’t ideal, but the three-headed monster at the top of this batting order will always keep this squad afloat. Most impressive is the campaign of Geraldo Perdomo, who just never slowed down after a torrid start to the season. Across 617 plate appearances, Perdomo is slashing .285/.384/.446 with 16 home runs and 24 steals. He’s also walked (82) more times than he’s struck out (68) in 2025.
