The Giants removed Matt Chapman from Sunday’s game after he fouled a ball off his foot. The third baseman finished the plate appearance by drawing a walk before being subbed out.
Casey Schmitt pinch ran for Chapman in the bottom of the sixth and remained in the game to play third.
Chapman has made multiple trips to the injured list this year, notably missing about a month from early June to early July with a hand injury. He returned to the IL in August with hand inflammation. It’s uncertain whether he’ll need another IL stint, but this round would be for his foot, not hand.
Chapman finished the game 1-2 with two walks and a strikeout as the Giants led 8-0 at the time of his exit.
