There are 13 games of MLB action taking place all across today’s Labor Day slate. The full playoff push is on with roughly 25 games remaining on each team’s regular-season schedule. Some separation has begun to build up in a few divisional races, while others are shaping up for a down-to-the-wire competition. Expect plenty of official postseason slots being punched in the coming days and weeks, with today bringing some teams another step closer.

This article will look at my top Pick6 plays for today’s action. You simply choose whether each set statistic will be more or less than the set number. With the stage set, here are my favorite picks on today’s MLB slate.
Christian Yelich More Than 0.5 Home Runs
The Brewers continue to be one of the hottest teams in the MLB and will kick off a three-game series with the Philadelphia Phillies today. The Phillies finished up a Sunday Night Baseball matchup with the Braves in Philadelphia last night and immediately flew to Milwaukee. Taijuan Walker will be on the mound for the series opener. While Walker has been solid this season, posting a 3.63 ERA and not allowing more than four runs in any of his past nine starts, it hasn’t always been the clearest process of getting there. The veteran has been removed from the starting rotation several times during his Phillies tenure and posted a 7.10 ERA last year. Walker has allowed nearly two home runs per nine innings since last season.
Christian Yelich has hit right-handed pitching well, posting a .884 OPS, and 23 of his 27 home runs have come against right-handed pitchers. He has faced Walker 10 times in his career, recording five hits with a double and a home run. Yelich hit .323 with seven home runs in August. He has two home runs in his past three games and has been a huge part of Milwaukee’s strong stretch. With Yelich in good form facing a favorable pitching matchup, look for him to put one over the fence against the Phillies today.
Jacob Misiorowski Less Than 1.5 Earned Runs Allowed
On the mound for the Brewers in the matchup will be prized rookie Jacob Misiorowski. The 6-foot-7 right-hander has made 10 starts thus far, posting a 4-2 record, a 4.33 ERA, and 65 strikeouts across his first 43.2 innings. Milwaukee has been cautious in limiting his innings, with Misiorowski not having pitched past the sixth inning and only reaching this stage in two of the 10 starts. But he has been effective in his chances, holding opponents to less than 1.5 earned runs in five of these opportunities.
He will take on a Phillies offense that produced just six total runs in the final three games of their series against the Braves. Fellow rookie Hurston Waldrep got the start against the Phillies last night and allowed just four hits, one earned run, and nine strikeouts in the Atlanta victory. The Phillies have a streaky lineup that can be way more hit or miss than the organization would prefer. They have struggled lately, so expect the Phillies’ struggles to continue and for this to be a prime opportunity for Misiorowski to showcase his stuff against another top National League team. Expect the Brewers to have a quick hook with the 23-year-old and for him to allow less than 1.5 earned runs in this matchup.
Rafael Devers More Than 1.5 Total Bases
The Giants’ offense is coming alive and has a great chance to keep building as they travel to Colorado to take on the Rockies. San Francisco has tallied 12+ runs in three of their past five games, with seemingly everyone getting in on the action. Rafael Devers has been a huge part of this effort and has begun to find his footing in a Giants uniform. Across his 65 games with the team, he is slashing .250/.357/.463 with 13 home runs and 35 RBIs. But over the past seven days, he is batting .478 with a .975 slugging percentage.
Chase Dollander will be on the mound for Colorado, who has struggled all season. He is posting a 6.55 ERA overall and a 9.88 ERA at home, with 10 of his 16 home runs allowed coming at Coors Field. Dollander has also allowed 12 of his 16 home runs during day games. Devers has not faced the Rockies yet this year, but went 5-for-11 at the plate against them last season with four doubles. He is seeing the ball well at the plate, and this is as friendly a matchup as he could ask for. Look for Devers to continue his hot streak and tally more than 1.5 total bases today.
Brandon Lowe More Than 0.5 Home Runs
The Tampa Bay Rays host the Seattle Mariners tonight in a matchup with some strong home run potential. Both starting pitchers have allowed 20+ home runs on the season. Brandon Lowe pops out as a favorable target with 28 home runs and 71 RBIs to his name so far this year. He has three home runs in his past four games and had nine in August overall.
Luis Castillo will be on the mound for the matchup, entering with a 3.75 ERA and 20 home runs allowed. He gave up eight home runs in just over 24.1 innings pitched in August and has allowed at least two earned runs in each of his last five starts. Lowe is 3-for-8 against Castillo in his career with a double and a home run. The Rays’ second baseman is seeing the ball well at the plate, and Castillo has struggled greatly of late. Look for Lowe to capitalize on the favorable matchup and tally his 29th home run of the season.
Geraldo Perdomo More Than 0.5 Walks
In the final matchup of tonight’s MLB slate, the Arizona Diamondbacks host the Texas Rangers. Patrick Corbin will get the start for the Rangers and enters with a 4.33 ERA. After leading the MLB with 208 hits allowed last year, Corbin has now walked hitters at a higher rate this season. He has tallied 43 walks across his 131 innings pitched, which ranks in the 58th percentile. The two-time All-Star has also allowed multiple walks in seven of his last nine starts.
Arizona ranks eighth in the MLB in walks drawn this season, with Geraldo Perdomo headlining the effort. In addition to leading the team with 144 hits and 87 RBIs, Perdomo has 82 walks on the season. Ketel Marte is second on the team with 59. Perdomo is 3-for-6 at the plate against Corbin in his career and has 20 walks over his past 28 games. Primarily batting in the leadoff spot, look for Perdomo to continue making it a priority to get one base by any means necessary and capitalize on Corbin’s willingness to walk opponents. Look for him to add another free base tonight to the 82 he has tallied already this season.
Eugenio Suarez More Than 0.5 Home Runs
The Seattle Mariners made a splash at the Trade Deadline by bringing back Eugenio Suarez, who last played for the team in 2022. Across his first 28 games back in Seattle, the two-time All-Star is slashing just .188/.259/.406 with six home runs and 18 RBIs.
Shane Baz will be on the mound for the matchup and enters with a 5.17 ERA and 27 home runs allowed this season. Only six pitchers in the MLB have given up more home runs thus far. Baz has never faced Suarez to this point, but has not escaped his past five starts with fewer than three earned runs allowed and allowed seven home runs across this stretch. While Suarez has not looked like the best version of himself on this Mariners roster yet, he has 42 home runs on the season, which ranks fifth in the entire MLB. Getting a favorable matchup could be all it takes to get him fully rolling. Look for Suarez to deliver with a home run tonight.
