Yoshinobu Yamamoto sets the tone at Dodger Stadium, where the park’s neutral run profile sharpens elite command into short innings. Brandon Pfaadt brings ride and a sweeper, but the contact quality against him stays loud when sequencing frays late. Twilight here trims early carry, then the Dodger pen squeezes air out of rallies.Below, I’ve got my preview, prediction, and best bet for this Sunday baseball game between the Dodgers and the Diamondbacks.
Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.
Dodgers vs. Diamondbacks prediction, preview
Yoshinobu Yamamoto is the clear ace here. The 27-year-old right-hander is 11-8 with a microscopic 2.90 ERA (3.18 FIP) in 139.2 innings, striking out a quarter of batters faced. He pairs a 27.9% K-rate with pinpoint control (8.5% BB-rate, 19.4% K-BB%) and generates tons of grounders (52.8% GB%). By contrast, Brandon Pfaadt is 12-8 with a 5.24 ERA (4.39 FIP) in 142.2 innings. Pfaadt strikes out just 18.7% of hitters (BB% only 5.1%, K-BB% 13.6%) and, despite a sinker-heavy arsenal, still allows 1.39 HR/9 (22 homers). Pfaadt’s road splits are rough — a 7.06 ERA away from home — and Dodger Stadium’s run factor around .94 doesn’t play big for scoring. In short, Yamamoto is pitching like a top-10 NL arm (3.6 fWAR) while Pfaadt has been fringy.
The lineups tell a similar story. Los Angeles bats are elite. Shohei Ohtani carries a .990 OPS with 45 homers and a .410 wOBA — with a 22.6% barrel rate and 58.5% hard-hit rate backing it. Freddie Freeman sits near .300 with a Statcast wOBA around .372, and Mookie Betts’ 7-for-17 (.412) lifetime versus Pfaadt underscores the matchup edge. Beyond the stars, L.A. ranks top-three in run scoring (about 5.1 runs per game) and second in homers (201). Arizona brings pop — Corbin Carroll at 28 homers with a .369 wOBA (xwOBA .376, 14.7% barrels) and Ketel Marte around a .390 wOBA with 14.4% barrels — but depth thins after that. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. sits near a .309 wOBA, Christian Walker around .310, and Geraldo Perdomo around .363, with Arizona fourth in runs (676) and homers (189).
Diamondbacks vs. Dodgers pick, best bet
Dodger Stadium will temper scoring. It’s historically a modest pitchers’ park by run factor (~.94), even if the alleys can carry at night. Sunday’s forecast sits in the mid-90s with a light southwest breeze and no rain — heat helps carry, but this isn’t Coors. Both staffs miss bats and manage contact (Dodgers K/9 ~9.0; Arizona ~8.1), which trims the extra traffic that wrecks unders. Yamamoto’s strand rate sits around 76%, matching the profile of a pitcher who smothers threats with strikeouts or grounders.
All signs point to a low-scoring finish. The Under 9.5 is the sharper lane. Yamamoto’s CSW and K-BB profile shorten innings and suppress crooked numbers; Pfaadt’s best sequences lean sinker/sweeper to keep right-handed lift in check. Park run suppression chips another few percentage points off baseline scoring. Yes, Los Angeles can blast any total, and Pfaadt’s road ERA argues for Dodgers damage, which is why LAD -1.5 is a viable secondary angle. But the cleaner exposure remains the environment and the aces: Yamamoto’s run prevention travels, and Pfaadt’s contact management can survive five frames.
Best bet: Dodgers vs. Diamondbacks u9.0 runs (-115)
