Kansas Jayhawks vs. Wagner Seahawks prediction, pick for Friday 8/29/25

Throttle down. This game lives at the intersection of mismatch and momentum, and I’m attacking it without blinking. Kansas returns to its renovated home buzzing after a 31–7 surgical win over Fresno State. Wagner walks in replacing most top skill production from a 4–8 FCS season. Below is my prediction and pick for College Football Week 1’s game between the Kansas Jayhawks and the Wagner Seahawks.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

Kansas vs. Wagner prediction, preview

Jalon Daniels’ rhythm was pristine, with two incompletions and one classified as a drop. He also added 47 rushing yards, including a 23-yard burst, fueling early-down stress on Wagner. Ten different receivers caught passes, amplifying spacing and target dispersion across every coverage landmark.

I start with efficiency and trench control, because those travel every snap. Daniels posted a 90% completion rate with three touchdowns, distributing to ten receivers while taking one sack. Kansas’ 2024 profile already screamed balance: 50.7% third-down rate ranked second in FBS, with 211.4 rushing yards per game. The defense just allowed 216 yards total and 37 rushing, while finishing +3 in turnover margin. Wagner’s 2024 offense averaged 19.2 points and 305.1 yards, ranking 103rd in FCS yardage with 93rd rushing. Daniels starts for Kansas; Wagner lists Jordan Barton or Jack Stevens at quarterback. Daniels’ Week 0 touchdown rate hit 15% of attempts, an elite opening-week signal. Cam Pickett delivered 12.8 yards per catch with two touchdowns, scoring on one-third of his receptions. Daniel Hishaw averaged 5.3 yards per carry; Leshon Williams flashed 9.5 per carry and a touchdown. Kansas limited Fresno’s backs to 2.8 yards per carry, below their 2024 4.7 baseline. Kansas’ pressure-to-sack outcome stayed excellent, surrendering one sack on 20 attempts.

The counterarguments feel familiar: enormous spread, backups entering, and a rivalry look-ahead at Missouri. I respect situational angles, then eliminate them with personnel reality. Kansas’ twos still outrun and outmuscle Wagner’s ones, and the front seven resets drives with length and speed. Bangally Kamara and Leroy Harris already showed edge juice, and Lyrik Rawls hawks throws when pressure lands. Wagner’s recent power-conference trips ended 66–7, 59–0, 52–3, and 62–10; that gap hasn’t shrunk. Kamara produced a strip-sack against Fresno, directly flipping possession and field position. Harris added another sack, confirming functional depth at both edge spots. Wagner’s last five power-league trips produced a 281–30 composite deficit, a clean separation baseline.

Wagner vs. Kansas pick, best bet

Kansas has covered six of its last seven, and four straight non-conference games have landed under, which matters only to pace expectations. Forecast calls for low-to-mid seventies and a light breeze, perfect for sustained tempo and crisp footing. Market models spit out scores near 50–4, 52–6, and 56–7, all living on the right side of -45.5. Low wind preserves deep timing and clean kicks, which advantages a machine offense. .

I return to the edges and lock the door. Daniels’ accuracy, the running back depth, and a mauling offensive line script a first-half avalanche. The defense compresses space, stacks early three-and-outs, and feeds short fields for quick strikes even when reserves rotate. Kansas builds a four-to-five touchdown margin by halftime and bleeds the rest through clean execution. I plant the flag with a blowtorch: Kansas by seven scores, ticket cashed. Daniels’ target dispersion to ten receivers forces simplified zone calls and exposed seams. Pickett’s two-touchdown, 12.8 yards-per-catch opener gives Wagner’s new secondary no safety valve. The defense’s 2.8 yards allowed per carry buries any clock-drain strategy before it breathes.

Best bet: Kansas -19.5 (-110) vs. Wagner
