As a result of not qualifying for European football for the first time since 2014-15, Man United find themselves in the second round of the EFL Carabao Cup. They will travel to Grimsby Town on Wednesday, who play in the fourth division of English football, League Two. There is obviously a distinguishable gap in quality between the sides, which is reflected in the odds for the game.

United are -900 moneyline favorites on DraftKings Sportsbook for this one, with a draw available at +650. Fancy a Grimsby Town upset? The League Two side are +1200 on the moneyline. The game is slated to kick off at 3:00 p.m. ET.

Grimsby Town vs. Man United Prediction, Pick

This bet can be found under the “Team Props” tab. Man United have only scored one goal in their first two games of this season’s Premier League, but this game feels like the perfect opportunity for the Red Devils to have a coming-out party against lower opposition. Yes, the Premier League side will likely rotate heavily ahead of Saturday’s game against Burnley, but no matter who plays, they will have way too much quality for Grimsby Town.

For reference on the talent gap between these two teams, United were drawn against League One side Barnsley in the third round of last season’s competition. The game was at home and United did end up playing a fairly strong team, but that game finished 7-0 to the Red Devils. The season before, in 2023-24, United played Newport County away in the fourth round of the FA Cup and beat the League Two side 4-2. These games are great for the smaller club to see their players play against some of the biggest names in the country, but it usually ends up in a lopsided scoreline.

I could see this one getting out of hand in a hurry. Grimsby Town are off to a great start to their season, sitting fourth in the division after five games, but their entire team are about to face an opposition the likes of which they’ve never seen. In the second round of last season’s EFL Carabao Cup, they lost 5-1 at home to Sheffield Wednesday of the Championship, the second tier of English football. If Sheffield Wednesday can put up five, how many could the Red Devils score on Wednesday?

Four or more goals from the visitors feels more likely than not and would take a lot of pressure off the back of Ruben Amorim, for now.
