MLB Picks and Player Props August 25, 2025

Trent Grisham 3+ H/R/RBI (+130) vs. Washington Nationals

Grisham is in the midst of a career resurgence in his second year with the Yankees. He’s in a strong spot tonight against Nationals starter Brad Lord, who recently moved into the rotation. Lord has been solid but not spectacular as a starter, carrying a 3.46 ERA with an xERA of 4.36. He leans heavily on his four-seam fastball, throwing it over 41% of the time. The pitch hasn’t been kind to him, as opposing hitters have produced a .435 wOBA and a .323 ISO against it.

That could spell trouble tonight, as Grisham has excelled against the four-seamer this season, posting a .430 wOBA and a .255 ISO. Batting out of the leadoff spot should give him plenty of chances to rack up hits, runs, and RBI. Adding to his upside is the forecast: winds blowing out at 10–12 mph, which could help boost the ball’s carry.

Kodai Senga over 2.5 earned runs allowed (+115) vs. Philadelphia Phillies

Segna is a major regression candidate, as his 2.58 ERA is paired with a 3.88 xERA. Just like in his rookie year in 2023, he continues to put plenty of runners on base via walks, reflected in his 4.3 BB/9. That regression has started to show in the second half of the season, where he owns a 6.00 ERA and has been tagged for a .375 wOBA. Seven of his 11 home runs allowed this year have come in just 27 second-half innings. He’s already surrendered 18 earned runs after giving up only 12 across 77.2 innings in the first half.

Tonight, he faces the Phillies with the wind blowing out—a tough matchup considering their expected lineup has combined for a .372 wOBA and a .195 ISO against four-seam fastballs. I think the Phillies get to him tonight and tag him for at least three earned runs.

Cincinnati Reds run line -0.5 (+135) through first five innings vs. Los Angeles Dodgers

I’m taking a shot on the Reds to hold the lead through the first five innings against the Dodgers. Hunter Greene is set to take the mound for Cincinnati, squaring off against Emmett Sheehan. Greene has looked sharp since returning, tossing 12.1 innings over two starts while allowing just three runs on nine hits and striking out 18 against the Phillies and Angels.

On the other side, Sheehan has struggled in the second half, posting a 5.20 ERA with a .339 wOBA allowed. The matchup also favors the Reds, who profile well against the four-seam fastball—Sheehan’s primary offering.

Good luck with your MLB picks and player props for August 25, 2025!
