US Open First Round Best Bets
The first round of the US Open continues on Monday. These are the best bets to consider for the biggest matches of the day:
Jannik Sinner vs. Vit Kopriva: First Set Total Games o8.5 (+110)
Jannik Sinner is the defending champion at the US Open and has won two of the three Grand Slams so far this season. If he didn’t blow a massive lead at Roland-Garros, he would be a US Open win away from being the second man in Open Era history to win the single-season Grand Slam. Sinner is a phenomenal player and should go deep into this tournament. However, Sinner’s health has been an issue heading into this tournament. He had to retire 23 minutes into the Cincinnati Open Final against Carlos Alcaraz, then withdrew from the mixed doubles event last week to continue to focus on his health. Sinner should be fine long-term, but he could be a bit shaky to start this match. Vit Kopriva is not up to Sinner’s stature, but he won his first-round match at Roland-Garros earlier this year and should have enough confidence to at least take a couple of games off Sinner in the first set as Sinner warms himself up.
Carlos Alcaraz vs. Reilly Opelka: Opelka +2.5 Sets (+105)
Carlos Alcaraz won the French Open and made it to the Wimbledon Final over his past two Grand Slam appearances. He won his first-ever Grand Slam at the US Open in 2022. Alcaraz and Sinner are in a class of their own at the moment and are the heavy favorites to get back to their third straight Grand Slam final against each other. However, Alcaraz faces a tough matchup in the first round against Reilly Opelka. The 6’11” American is a unique challenge for any player because of his size and strength. Opelka will attack the net, use his strong serve and the support of the American crowd to make life difficult on Alcaraz. Opelka has defeated two top-10 players this season, Novak Djokovic early in the year and Alex de Minaur a couple of weeks ago in Cincinnati. He should feel good about his game and find a way to steal a set from Alcaraz on Monday.
Coco Gauff vs. Ajla Tomljanovic: First Set Total Games u8.5 (-110)
Coco Gauff is one of the most beloved players at this tournament every year. The young American broke through at 19 years old by winning the 2023 US Open. She has since added a second major title, winning at Roland-Garros earlier this year. She is the third-ranked woman in the world heading into this tournament, and with her history at the US Open and the home crowd support that she will get, Gauff should feel great about her chances of winning a third major title. These two have only faced each other once before, and that came at the 2024 Olympic Games, where Gauff handled Tomljanovic with ease, 6-3, 6-0. Gauff should come out of the gates hot in this match and keep the total first set games under 8.5.
