Really felt last start like Dustin May’s move to the Red Sox might have corresponded with an elevation of his pitching profile & pedigree. And Trevor Rogers has just been a contact-obliterating lefty that might give Boston’s hot bats a little trouble. Below, I’ve got my preview, prediction, and best bet for this Monday night baseball game between the Red Sox and the Orioles.
Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.
Red Sox vs. Orioles prediction, preview
Boston’s bats punish lefties this season with a .266 average and a .437 slug. Baltimore’s road contact grades poor, posting a .227 average and a .653 road OPS. August exposed Baltimore further, entering Sunday at a 63 wRC+, then spiking on one outburst. With two strikes this month, Baltimore’s OBP sits .189, confirming chase and weak survival at-bats. Rogers suppresses damage with a 3.07 xERA, 0.81 WHIP, and a 6.5% barrel rate while averaging 6.3 innings. May offsets flaws with an elite high fastball, allowing a .117 average up in the zone.
Red Sox backers will tout 41-23 at home and a top-five offense by runs. They’ll cite .266 versus left-handed starters and a .437 slug that travels. They’ll point to Fenway’s lift and Boston’s ability to grind third-time-through with a .360 OBP. I counter with on-road production collapse for Baltimore and Rogers’ barrel extinction that erases crooked innings. Boston’s contact wins count, yet Rogers’ shape shrinks extra bases and drags pace into long, empty frames.
Jordan Westburg just erupted 4-for-5 with a homer and five RBIs; Gunnar Henderson continues to pace Baltimore’s contact. May will need to avoid that. For Boston, Wilyer Abreu’s 22 homers headline, and Jarren Duran posted four doubles in five games against losing AL opponents. But, of course, Boston’s offense would naturally be in better form than the Orioles. It’ll be on May to repeat his prior performance.
Orioles vs. Red Sox pick, best bet
Season series leans Boston 4-3, yet totals skew tight in this matchup. The Orioles trend under on the road, cashing 39 of 58 away games. Baltimore also sits 12-5-1 to the road under across the recent sample. Market nudged Boston from -120 to -121 with total steady at 8.5 despite breeze. First-inning unders have landed in the last three night meetings here, compressing early variance. I lock the under 8.5 at Fenway tonight.
I value run prevention and contact shape over brand names in this spot. Rogers constricts traffic, and Baltimore’s bats don’t inflate innings away from Camden. May won’t dazzle, yet his vertical heater and usage tighten sequencing when needed. Leverage innings, park, and bullpen depth funnel this game toward late one-run pockets.
Best bet: Red Sox vs. Orioles u8.5 total runs (-120)
