The Miami Dolphins have the early feel of a team teetering on a disastrous season. The outlook got worse with head coach Mike McDaniel telling reporters that RB De’Von Achane has a soft tissue injury in his lower body that will keep him out between “days & weeks.”
Achane has been an impact player in the Dolphins’ backfield with 1,707 rushing yards, 789 receiving yards, and 23 total touchdowns over the past two seasons. He finished as the fifth-ranked fantasy football running back based on DraftKings scoring last year with 305.9 total fantasy points, or 18.0 per week.
McDaniel made a clear effort to downplay the severity of the issue but left plenty open for interpretation without specifying the exact injury. Miami will open the season against the Indianapolis Colts on September 7, leaving three weeks for Achane to get the issue under control. Jaylen Wright and 179th-overall pick Ollie Gordon II sit behind Achane on the depth chart and would see their roles expanded if the 23-year-old is set to miss any time.
Achane’s season-long rushing prop is set at 900.5 rushing yards on DraftKings Sportsbook.\
The Dolphins hold a season-long win total of 7.5 with -105 odds of going over and -115 odds on the under. Miami also holds +220 odds of qualifying for the playoffs this season.
