As if Tuesday’s game against the Brewers couldn’t be any worse for Pirates fans, Oneil Cruz exited the game due to a potential head injury.
In the fourth inning, Cruz slid for a pop fly and collided with left fielder Jack Suwinski. It appears that his head struck Suwinski’s chest. He finished out the fourth and played the field in the fifth inning before being removed for a pinch-hitter in the top of the sixth. It’s unclear at this time what specific kind of injury he is being evaluated for.
Cruz is batting .206 with 18 home runs and 34 stolen bases this year. One of the bright young stars in Pittsburgh, any absence would make a rough season even more difficult to watch.
