Sepp Straka has withdrawn from this week’s BMW Championship due to a private family matter.
While there are no further details about the situation, our thoughts and prayers go out to the Straka family during this presumed difficult time. Straka does currently plan on competing at next week’s TOUR Championship, but that obviously is no guarantee. The Austrian has had the best season of his career in 2025, with six top-10 finishes in 20 solo starts, including wins at the American Express in January and at the Truist Championship in May.
Given Straka’s success this season, he currently sits fifth in the FedEx Cup standings, so he can afford to miss this week’s BMW Championship, as gaining no points this week won’t bump him out of the top-30. Following the BMW Championship, only the top-30 players in the FedEx Cup standings will qualify for the TOUR Championship at East Lake next week, which is the third and final event of the FedEx Cup Playoffs. With Straka out this week, the field is now down to 49 players for the BMW Championship.
