St. Louis Cardinals vs. Chicago Cubs prediction, pick for Sunday 8/10/25

SNB drops us into a rubber match at Busch, where rivalry heat meets August urgency. Chicago chases Milwaukee in the Central, every out a rung in a narrowing ladder. It’s firmly a sprint now. No longer a marathon. St. Louis sits at .500, protecting home pride after a split, while the Cubs hold a 5–4 season edge. Below, I’ve got my preview, prediction, and best bet for this Sunday night baseball game between the Cardinals and the Cubs.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

Cardinals vs. Cubs prediction, preview

I’m backing Chicago without a flinch. The edge starts on the mound and multiplies fast. Shota Imanaga brings command and tempo that travel. He dictates count leverage, then buries innings before contact breathes. This season shows a 3.12 ERA and a cold 1.00 WHIP. Against St. Louis, he’s 2-0 with a 2.41 ERA and 0.86 WHIP. His last Busch start was surgical: five scoreless, one hit, heartbeat unchanged. Recent form tightens everything further. He’s thrown 61% strikes across two starts, best in baseball over that window. Forty-one batters, zero walks, and tempo that crushes ambush swings. Righties managed an .111 OBP in his last outing, which tells the whole story.

St. Louis lacks lefty thunder by profile and current context. They rank 15th in wOBA and 27th in ISO against southpaws. Brendan Donovan’s groin issue strips contact quality from the top tonight. That elevates whiff risk and shortens rallies before they form. Meanwhile, Chicago’s bats punish right-handed fastballs that drift to the outer rail. Top-five wOBA and top-three ISO versus righties confirm the firepower. Michael Busch keeps carving this rivalry, and Seiya Suzuki extends plate pressure relentlessly. Two-strike offensive production seals the sting, with a .296 slug that flips kill counts.

Sonny Gray walks in against that profile with warning lights flashing. Yes, he blanked the Dodgers for seven frames, but volatility defines the arc. Across his last seven, the ERA sits at 6.49, and barrels find daylight. At home, opponents hit .272, and away fastballs get punished at a .612 slug. Chicago tracks that lane and lifts it with intent. Gray has allowed more than 1.5 earned in ten of twenty-three. Five of his last seven also cleared that mark. The Cubs exploit early, then suffocate leverage when the game tightens. They’re 61-17 after first-inning scores since last season, and that matters. On the road, they play clean baseball and travel pressure into late innings.

Cubs vs. Cardinals pick, best bet

Bullpen indicators back stability despite surface ERA noise the last month. xFIP and strikeout-minus-walk rates project control in the seventh through ninth. Park and weather tighten the script in Chicago’s favor. Busch plays neutral for runs, trims carry, and rewards precise execution over raw loft. Mid-80s temperatures and light wind won’t juice fly balls tonight. Imanaga’s hit suppression profile fits that environment perfectly. He has held opponents under 5.5 hits in twelve of sixteen. He’s done it eight of his last nine as well. Market context agrees, with Chicago -130 and the total parked at eight. I’m prioritizing side over total because the matchup edges are stacked. Imanaga controls contact, Chicago controls count leverage, and rallies cash harder against Gray’s outer-third fastballs.

I’m most comfortable with Cubs moneyline at -130, and I play it confidently through first pitch. If you prefer plus money, the run line qualifies. Chicago -1.5 leverages Gray’s contact profile and Chicago’s late bullpen steadiness—but that’s not been as reliable of late. I’m going ML; more power to the boldest of us.

Go Cubs. Fly the W. Etc.

Best bet: Cubs (-130) at Cardinals
