Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Colorado Rockies prediction, pick for Sunday 8/10/25

Hey, I know it’s the ugliest game of the evening slate tonight. But I do think there’s a lean to be had, even in this game between two disappointing squads. Below, I’ve got my preview, prediction, and best bet for this Sunday night baseball game between the Diamondbacks and the Rockies.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

Diamondbacks vs. Rockies prediction, preview

The roof will be closed, the air will be still, and the ball will fly. Chase Field in August is a scoring amplifier disguised as a stadium. The Rockies’ league-worst 6.02 ERA and .300 opponent batting average are gasoline for that fire. Tanner Gordon brings a 9.39 road ERA and has been shredded for 13 earned runs in his last 5.2 away innings. His 1.78 WHIP means traffic on the bases from the jump. That’s deadly against a Diamondbacks offense ranking seventh in MLB in runs per game and fourth in slugging.

Arizona stacks matchup nightmares. Corbin Carroll’s .555 slugging against righties meets Gordon’s .957 OPS allowed to left-handed hitters. Ketel Marte’s patience forces Gordon into the zone, where he’s getting barreled on 13% of batted balls. Geraldo Perdomo, hitting .400 over his last ten games, extends innings and piles pitch counts. Every top-four Diamondbacks hitter owns an OBP over .320, and Gordon’s inability to miss bats—just 5.0 strikeouts per nine—means they’ll dictate at-bats.

Colorado’s bullpen offers no relief. A 5.15 FIP and 34.7% inherited runner scoring rate make late-inning containment a fantasy. They’ve allowed opponents to score in the first inning in ten straight games. That trend aligns with Arizona’s seven straight home games hitting the first-inning over.

Rockies vs. Diamondbacks pick, best bet

Counterarguments? Pfaadt’s 5.02 ERA looks hittable. But strip out one implosion and he’s allowed two or fewer earned runs in four of his last five starts. His home ERA sits at 3.64, with a WHIP nearly 0.3 lower than on the road. Colorado’s offense ranks 28th in runs per game, 30th in OBP, and 29th in strikeouts per walk on the road. They have one legitimate power threat—Hunter Goodman—and little else sustaining rallies.

The market opened at nine runs and held despite public weight on the over. That’s respect for Pfaadt, but it’s also a tell: the number’s too low for this environment. Colorado’s last eight games have hit the over seven times. Arizona has scored at least six in four of their last five matchups against the Rockies this year. The bullpens’ combined ERA north of 5.50 means no lead is safe and no inning is clean.

ATS history screams gap games here. The Diamondbacks have covered -1.5 in five of the last six against Colorado. The Rockies have failed to cover the run line in nine of their last ten day games versus NL West opponents after a road loss. Add in a 14-44 road record and a -321 run differential, and you have a team built to get buried.

The pick is the total. Not because the favorite won’t roll, but because both arms will bend early, and the bullpens will snap late. We’ve got Gordon’s hard-hit chaos feeding Carroll and Gurriel, Pfaadt likely cruising until the sixth, then yielding just enough for Colorado to contribute. All signs point to sustained scoring pressure from both sides.

Best bet: Diamondbacks vs. Rockies o9.0 total runs (-105)
