What happened to Roman Anthony? Live injury updates for Royals vs. Red Sox 8/4/25

UPDATE: According to Red Sox manager Alex Cora, Roman Anthony won’t play on Tuesday but should be ready to return soon after that. A sigh of relief for Red Sox fans.

UPDATE: Anthony was scratched due to mid-back tightness.

Just moments before the start of Monday’s game vs. the Royals, OF Roman Anthony was scratched from the lineup and replaced in right field by Wilyer Abreu. There is no mention as to the reason why and if there’s an injury, but we will get that information to you when it comes out.

Anthony is having a terrific rookie season, playing in 46 games so far in 2025. He has recorded 45 hits, 27 runs, 19 RBIs and two homers while batting .283. With the Red Sox in a battle to secure playoff seeding in the American League, they will need Anthony back out there sooner rather than later. Boston has two more games scheduled against Kansas City on Tuesday and Wednesday, before a day off on Thursday before they head out on the road to San Diego on Friday.
