The NASCAR Cup Series Iowa Corn 350 Powered by Ethanol at Iowa is on Sunday and DraftKings is offering a new way to play fantasy NASCAR. The game is simple. It’s strange to say, but Iowa may be Bell’s best track. How can that be? This is only Bell’s second Cup Series race at the Iowa Speedway. His first run was impressive. Due to adjustments, Bell started the race at the back of the field. In no time, he surged into the top five. Just as he was on the verge of taking the lead, an ill-timed caution cost him 10 positions. Undeterred, he worked his way through the field and rejoined the top five. Unfortunately, he ran out of laps before he could reach the top spot. Despite poor track position, Bell earned 16.65 fast-lap points to complement his 40 finishing position points. Technically, he only scored six place differential points because his points were calculated from his qualifying position (10th) rather than his actual starting grid position.
Bell’s success at Iowa isn’t limited to a single Cup Series race. His Xfinity Series resume stands out. In five races from 2017 to 2019, Bell secured two wins and two runner-up finishes. His first race at Iowa was his worst in terms of finishing position (16th), but he led an impressive 152 laps in that event.

Iowa looked racy during practice, but practice is just that—practice. Single-car runs don’t tell the full story. Once the entire field lines up, the racing dynamic shifts at this hybrid short track and intermediate speedway. Dirty air will be significantly worse during the race, particularly challenging at the front and nearly unbearable at the back. Last season, Elliott started ninth and finished third at Iowa. He will start eighth on Sunday afternoon.
Three of the fastest cars in practice were Hendrick Chevys. While practice times can be overrated, when three Hendrick cars dominate both practice and qualifying, it’s worth noting. Elliott completed a session-high 52 laps. When sorting laps from best to worst, he was the second-quickest on laps 15 to 30 and the fastest on laps 30 to 40. Tire wear was a significant issue at Iowa last season, and NASCAR is introducing a new tire design to the Iowa Speedway in 2025. Managing tire wear may be the biggest factor in Sunday’s race. Elliott appears to be managing tires better than anyone in the field.
