LA Dodgers ML (-165)
The Dodgers battle the Reds tonight, and while Cincinnati just snagged Ke’Bryan Hayes via trade to bolster their defense, he probably won’t suit up this evening. Los Angeles enters this outing with a 63-45 record at 5-5 across their last 10 contests while Cincinnati sits 56-52 at .500 across their last 10 games as well. However, the Dodgers took the first two games of this series with final scores of 5-2 and 5-4, so they’re looking at a real possibility of a sweep tonight.
Shohei Ohtani opens the game for Los Angeles after throwing three innings in each of his last two starts while continuing to ramp up his workload. He’s logged a 1.50 ERA and 1.00 WHIP over his 12 innings this year, striking out 13 batters in the process. He faces Cincy starter Nick Martinez, whose ERA sits a smidge high at 4.69 though his 1.22 WHIP looks solid. The right-hander doesn’t have a ton of strikeout juice with just 86 in 121 innings, and it looks like the Dodgers’ lineup may get the better of him with nine and 11 hits across the last two games of this series.
MIA Marlins Moneyline (+125)
Look, the Marlins probably aren’t a team that catches many bettors eyes considering the franchise’s reputation. However, they’re one of the MLB’s hottest teams over the last two months and won their first three series coming out of the All-Star break against the Royals, Padres and Brewers. They’re likely going to reach the .500 mark on the year soon and are 6-4 across their last 10 games. Meanwhile, the Cardinals are 55-54 and 4-6 over their last 10 contest as they slip further down the NL Central standings.
St. Louis won game one of this series 7-2 but Miami emerged with a 5-0 win last night. This evening, Miles Mikolas (4.94 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, 70 SO) starts for the Cardinals against the Marlins’ Cal Quantril (5.05 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, 74 SO), so this pitcher matchup appears very evenly-matched. However, I trust the Marlins’ offense more than that of the Redbirds right now, so I’m rolling with an underdog pick and taking Miami to win yet another series this evening.
TEX Rangers Moneyline (-125)
We round out this parlay with the Rangers, another hot team in a positive matchup. They’re 56-52 overall and surged in the win column over the last few weeks, and they’re 7-3 across their last 10 contests as well. It’s a tad concerning they dropped the first two games of this series to a 53-55 Angels squad.
Texas is the better team to begin with, especially with an elite pitching staff Los Angeles can’t come close to matching. They have a significant advantage on that end, especially with Nathan Eovaldi taking the mound. The 35-year-old looks like a Cy Young-caliber performer with a 1.50 ERA and 0.88 WHIP this year, so he should be positioned for a strong evening against an Angels team that has struggled at the plate plenty while striking out a ton. Los Angeles does start Jose Soriano (3.79 ERA, 1.40 WHIP) but he’s still outmatched in the starter battle. The Rangers might only need a couple of runs to win tonight and I like their chances of bouncing back.
