Sedgefield Country Club (par 70, 7,131 yards, Bermuda greens) in Greensboro, North Carolina is hosting the Wyndham Championship this week. Next week, the FedEx Cup Playoffs begin with the FedEx St. Jude Championship and only the top-70 players in the FedEx Cup standings will qualify for this playoff opener. At the Wyndham Championship, there will be 156 golfers competing and a top-65 and ties cut after the first two rounds.

Matt Wallace to make the cut
Wallace has finished T45th and T28th at Sedgefield CC the last two years and the Englishman nearly secured his second PGA TOUR win at the 3M Open last week. Wallace finished T3rd and only three strokes back of the winner while gaining strokes in every major category at TPC Twin Cites. The 35-year-old posted a 6-under 64 in the final round and Wallace has only missed one cut in his last 10 solo starts when excluding his withdrawal from THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson in May. Wallace ranks 16th in total strokes gained when we compare this field’s last 24 rounds and he not only must make the cut this week, but Wallace needs to finish high on the leaderboard at Segdefield CC if he wants to advance to the FedEx St. Jude Championship next week. Wallace is currently 92nd in the FedEx Cup standings and as noted above, only the top-70 in the standings will qualify for the FedEx St. Jude Championship.
Webb Simpson to make the cut
Hailing from North Carolina, the Wyndham Championship is Simpson’s hometown event and a tournament he takes very seriously. Simpson has competed at 16 straight Wyndham Championships at Segefield CC and excluding his first round withdrawal in 2022, he has made 13-of-15 cuts at this par 70 and notably 10 of these finishes have been top-10 results, including a three-shot win in 2011. Simpson is gaining 2.06 strokes per round at Sedgefield CC – which ranks second among the players in this field that have competed at this course more than once – and he has shot 64 or better five times at this Donald Ross design, most notably with an 8-under 62 in 2018. Simpson is coming off a missed cut at last week’s 3M Open, but he only missed the cut by two shots and before this, the Wake Forest product had advanced to the weekend in three of his previous four starts. While Simpson is unlikely to contend at this point of his career, the local favorite once again should make the cut in front of his friends and family at Segdefield CC this week.
Kevin Roy to make the cut
Roy missed the cut in his only start at Sedgefield CC two years ago, but this is totally irrelevant, as the 35-year-old is a totally different class of player nowadays. Roy was the 415th ranked player in the world heading into his Wyndham Championship debut in 2023, but now, he is the No.120 ranked player in the world. Roy has only missed one cut in his last 11 solo starts, including six finishes of T31st or better. One of these finishes was a T8 at the Rocket Classic last month, which was played at another Ross designed course in Detroit Golf Club. Roy ranks third in par four performance and sixth in total driving this season, and he should be determined to at least make the cut this week, as Roy is currently right outside the bubble for next week’s FedEx St. Jude Championship, sitting at 76th in the FedEx Cup standings.
