Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Cincinnati Reds prediction, pick for Tuesday 7/29/25

A potential postseason preview is on tap for Tuesday when the Dodgers visit the Reds. Los Angeles has hit a bit of a speed bump recently, notching a 9-13 record in July. Still, the defending champs remain atop a loaded NL West division. Cincinnati (56-51) is a factor in the National League playoff race; a series win over LA would be a major momentum boost. Which squad will come out on top tonight? Below, I’ve laid out my preview, prediction, and best bet for Tuesday’s matchup between the Dodgers and Reds.

The Dodgers are favorites (-158) over the Reds, with the over/under set at nine runs. Let’s break down which side has the edge on DraftKings Sportsbook entering tonight’s contest.

Dodgers vs. Reds prediction, preview

Los Angeles, for all its recent struggles, remains the clear World Series favorite at +290. It’s easy to see why given all the talent on this roster. It starts at the plate, where three-time MVP Shohei Ohtani appears poised to add to his trophy case. The two-way superstar is slashing .276/.381/.620 with 38 home runs and 73 RBIs. He’s joined by fellow All-Stars Will Smith (170 wRC+) and Freddie Freeman (129 wRC+). However, the Dodgers have scored the league’s third-fewest runs per game (3.82) since July 1st.

LA’s pitching hasn’t been much better this month, ranking 20th in opponent runs scored (105). Still, the Dodgers aren’t exactly lacking in high-end arms. Tonight’s starter, Tyler Glasnow, remains one of the sport’s top hurlers (when healthy). Through just eight starts this season, the righty has recorded a 2.75 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, and 46 strikeouts. Last week, the former All-Star delivered a seven-inning, one-run, 12-strikeout masterpiece against the Twins. If there’s any hope for the Reds, they own the league’s sixth-highest batting average against right-handed pitchers (.256).

To earn an upset win, Cincinnati will need a strong performance from Nick Lodolo. It’s been a terrific year for the southpaw, who is quickly emerging as a staff ace. Over 122.2 innings of work, the 27-year-old has put up a 3.08 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 112 strikeouts. However, he’s a significantly better player on the road (2.23 ERA) than at home (4.17 ERA). Los Angeles has accounted for baseball’s highest slugging percentage (.450) against left-handed pitching. A small caveat? Los Angeles might not be quite as lethal with Max Muncy (knee) sidelined.

Dodgers vs. Reds pick, best bet

Best Bet: Dodgers -1.5 (+102)

In most spots, the Reds would be a solid bet with Lodolo on the mound. Unfortunately for Cincinnati, this is about as difficult as it gets. Glasnow is an ace-level talent, while this Dodgers offense remains lethal. Los Angeles leads the National League with 161 home runs this season. That happens to be Lodolo’s biggest weakness (1.2 HR/9). Look for LA to launch a few dingers to gain some separation tonight.
