The PGA TOUR is hosting the Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield Country Club (par 70, 7,131 yards, Bermuda greens) in Greensboro, North Carolina. This is the final event before the FedEx Cup Playoffs, and the players inside the top 70 in the FedEx Cup Standings following the Wyndham Championship will qualify for next week’s FedEx St. Jude Championship. There are 156 golfers competing at the Wyndham Championship this week and there will be a top-65 and ties cut following the first two rounds.
Below, I have featured some finishing position bets to consider for the Wyndham Championship.
Nicolai Hojgaard for a top-30 finish (+150)
Hojgaard is in the midst of an impressive run of golf. In his last three starts, the Dane has finished T24th at the Rocket Classic, T4th at the Genesis Scottish Open and T14th at the Open Championship, in that order. The Rocket Classic was notably played at the Donald Ross designed Detroit Golf Club with another Ross design in Sedgefield CC this week. Plus, Hojgaard’s T14 at the Open Championship in his last start marked his best major finish to date and he gained strokes in every major category at Royal Portrush that week.
Hojgaard has shot under par in all but one of these past 12 rounds and he ranks third in total strokes gained when we compare this field’s last 12 rounds. The 24-year-old missed the cut at Sedgefield CC last season, but the year prior, he finished T14th in his first attempt at the par 70.
Ranking top-30 in both SG APP and SGP this season, he is an excellent match for Sedgefield CC. Of the last five winners at Sedgefield CC, three have finished the event top 12 in both SG APP and SGP. Lastly, Hojgaard should be extremely motivated this week, as he can’t afford to have a poor showing at the Wyndham Championship if he wants to qualify for next week’s FedEx St. Jude Championship, given he sits 71st in the FedEx Cup standings. Hojgaard should put his best foot forward this week and he is a stellar bet for a top-30 finish at this +150 price.
Gary Woodland for a top-40 finish (+135)
Woodland is another player that must perform well at Sedgefield CC if he wants his season to continue, as the former U.S. Open champion currently sits 76th in the FedEx Cup standings. The 41-year-old has finished 27th and 28th at Sedgefield CC the last two years and he shot under in all but one of these eight rounds.
And he now returns to Sedgefield CC fresh off a T20 at the 3M Open last week, which is the eighth time he has finished inside the top-40 in 19 starts this season. Woodland closed last week’s 3M Open with a 5-under 66 in the final round and he has shot under par in 12 of his last 16 rounds.
Woodland ranks top-50 in SG APP, total driving and par four performance this season, and he has a great chance to finish inside the top-40 this week.
