This is a look at the fantasy value of all the players in the Baltimore Ravens’ backfield.
Miami Dolphins Backfield
The Dolphins are hoping to bounce back after a disappointing 2024-25 season. Miami made the postseason in each of the first two seasons under Mike McDaniel, but took a step back last season, finishing 8-9, their first losing season since 2019. A huge part of that was the injuries suffered by Tua Tagovailoa. Tagovailoa has had injury issues, mainly concussions, throughout his career. He missed a huge chunk of last season. When Tagovailoa was out, the offense struggled. Despite that, it was a great season for De’Von Achane. Achane finished the season fifth in PPR fantasy scoring among all running backs.
Going into last season, Achane was expected to split carries with veteran Raheem Mostert and rookie Jaylen Wright. However, Achane emerged as the clear lead back, especially as a receiver out of the backfield. Achane led all running backs with 592 receiving yards last season. Part of that is due to Achane’s great hands and dynamic ability after the catch. However, the fact that the Dolphins were dealing with a backup quarterback who was not as confident throwing deep to the likes of Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle was also a big factor in why Achane got so many carries.
This offseason, Raheem Mostert moved on from Miami. Achane will still be the primary back, and sophomore Jaylen Wright will be the RB2 to start the season. The Dolphins also added a veteran running back, Alexander Mattison, and drafted another running back, Ollie Gordon II, in the sixth round. If Gordon shows some promise during training camp and preseason, they will likely try to give him some action this season. However, it should be a clear 1-2 punch of Achane and Wright.
Running Back Handcuffs: Jaylen Wright
De’Von Achane had a fantastic 2024-25 season, and he will be the primary back heading into next season. If Tua Tagovailoa can stay healthy, this should be an exciting offense, with Achane playing a big role on the ground and through the air. Despite that, Jaylen Wright will get a chance to play a sizable role in the Miami offense. Wright and Raheem Mostert combined for over 500 rushing yards last season. With Mostert gone, Wright should take the clear RB2 role. If he can take all the carries that Mostert had last season, he should be a productive backup running back.
Part of the reason that Achane had such a great season was the fact that he played all 17 games. However, in his rookie season, Achane only played 11 games. If he misses time again this season, that will give Jaylen Wright a chance to play a huge role this season. While Mattison and Gordon could see some action, Wright is the clear handcuff option for De’Von Achane. The Miami offense should be one of the best in the league if they all stay healthy. Mike McDaniel is a creative offensive mind who will find a way to get the best out of both Achane and Wright, even potentially playing them together in the same formations. That makes Wright a great handcuff option for De’Von Achane.
