San Diego Padres vs. New York Mets prediction, pick for Monday 7/28/25

Under the lights at Petco Park, the Padres and surging Mets clash in a game with playoff ramifications and star power aplenty. Can the Mets keep it going on the road against the Friars? Below, I’ve got my preview, prediction, and best bet for this Monday baseball game between the Padres and the Mets.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

Padres vs. Mets prediction, preview

Dylan Cease toes the slab for San Diego carrying a misleading 3–10 record and dazzling 88th‑percentile strikeout rate, his slider whiffing batters at an elite clip. Across the diamond, Frankie Montas offers a sturdy 4.62 ERA and previously dominated the Padres in limited starts. New York’s lineup is a juggernaut: Pete Alonso, Francisco Lindor and Juan Soto combine for over 65 homers, and Ronny Mauricio’s 4‑for‑4 explosion underscores the depth. San Diego counters with Manny Machado’s recent four‑hit game and Tatis Jr.’s run manufacture, but their offense has sputtered against legitimate rotation arms.

Petco’s pitcher‑friendly confines will amplify any mistakes, making every first‑pitch strike vital. Cease must navigate a Mets order that chases free passes, while Montas needs to avoid the long ball against San Diego’s disciplined lineup. Recent form favors the Padres—their 10‑game road trip taught them resilience—but the Mets’ seven‑game winning streak speaks volumes.

Mets vs. Padres pick, best bet

I think the Mets have all the momentum in the world right now, and their lineup has finally put it together. Padres won’t go down easy, though. Good pitchers on the mound, but I like the force of each lineup right now to push this one over the total.

Best bet: Padres vs. Mets o8.0 runs (-110)
