Entering WrestleMania 41, Rhodes was the Undisputed Champion with Cena as the challenger. Now the roles are reversed at SummerSlam. Rhodes is attempting to regain his title against Cena at WWE’s second most significant premium live event of the year.
Here is my prediction for the Main Event of SummerSlam Sunday.
Cena vs. Rhodes Prediction
Although it may seem like the perfect moment for Rhodes to regain his title, this is a close call, as a strong case can be made for either guy to win this match.
Rhodes’ first WWE Championship reign was good, but he excels when chasing the title as the challenger. He has made fans more invested in the rematch with Cena at SummerSlam over the past few weeks. There have been numerous rumors about Rhodes turning heel recently, but it still seems too early, as he is the top baby face in the company.
Although I previously thought this would be where Rhodes would become a two-time champion, the better option is for him to undergo more hard times before he regains his title. Before Rhodes finished his story at WrestleMania 40, it felt like he needed that win to validate his entire career. But since winning the title, he has become one of the biggest stars in the company, and that doesn’t seem to be changing anytime soon, regardless of whether he has gold around his waist or not.
I believe Cena will win this match with the help of outside interference, similar to what happened at WrestleMania, but an appearance from The Final Boss is also possible.
