The Dodgers still stand atop the NL West, but it’s been a brutal month of July (6-11). In comparison, the 49-52 Twins are barely hanging on in a wide-open American League playoff race. Can Los Angeles clinch this series at home, or will Minnesota pull off an upset win? Below, I’ve laid out my preview, prediction, and best bet for Wednesday’s matchup between the Twins and the Dodgers.
The Dodgers are favorites (-220) over the Twins, with the over/under set at nine runs. Let’s break down which side has the edge on DraftKings Sportsbook entering tonight’s contest.
Twins vs. Dodgers prediction, preview
It’s no secret that the Dodgers have struggled this month. Still, Los Angeles boasts the league’s highest-scoring offense, led by none other than Shohei Ohtani. Last night, the three-time MVP clobbered his fourth homer in four straight games. Unfortunately for LA, it didn’t matter much; the Twins still won 10-7. Other than Shohei, it’s been a struggle at the plate for the defending champions. Since July 1st, the Dodgers are tied for last with the Pirates in batting average (.212). Several All-Stars have underperformed during that time, including Will Smith (.208 batting average) and Mookie Betts (.183).
Fortunately for Los Angeles, Wednesday’s starter isn’t exactly elite. Chris Paddack has been a serviceable arm throughout most of his seven seasons as a pro. However, he’s delivered a lackluster 5.14 ERA in 2025. That number has ballooned to 5.81 on the road, away from pitcher-friendly Target Field. Over eight appearances vs. the Dodgers, Paddack is on the hook for a 6.63 ERA. A lack of swing-and-miss ability has led to a career-worst 2.78 K/BB ratio for the right-hander.
If the Twins have any shot at winning this afternoon, they’ll need to do damage against Tyler Glasnow. When healthy (big if), the 31-year-old is one of baseball’s most talented pitchers. That’s been the case yet again this season. Though just 29.0 innings of work, the righty owns a stellar 3.10 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 34 strikeouts. In each of his last two starts, the former All-Star allowed just one combined run. The biggest knock on Glasnow has been his control (4.66 BB/9). However, Minnesota isn’t likely to take advantage. On the road, the Twins are averaging the league’s fifth-fewest walks per game (2.78).
Twins vs. Dodgers pick, best bet
Best Bet: Dodgers -1.5 (-110)
Taking a struggling Los Angeles squad to cover isn’t the most obvious bet. However, it’s not as if the Twins deserve much trust from bettors. Minnesota is a painfully average club, and today they’ll go up against a legitimate World Series contender. Expect Glasnow to deliver a gem as the Dodgers cruise towards their 60th win of the season.
