The Mets return home looking to build on a hard-fought 3-2 win after a frustrating stretch stalled their playoff momentum. Kodai Senga takes the ball with a blistering 1.39 ERA, anchoring a staff that’s carried New York through recent injuries. Across the diamond, the Angels ride a 4-2 stretch and arrive with Taylor Ward swinging one of the league’s hottest bats. It’s Senga vs. Anderson to open the series, with both clubs clinging to postseason relevance in tightly packed races. Below, I’ve got my preview, prediction, and best bet for this Monday night baseball game between the Mets and the Angels.
Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.
Mets vs. Angels prediction, preview
Citi Field sets the stage, and Kodai Senga sets the tone. This is where dominant home pitching meets a vulnerable road squad. The Mets enter 34-16 in Queens, backed by one of MLB’s sharpest arms in Senga, whose 1.39 ERA glows like neon in a night game. He’s been lethal at home—1.07 ERA, .199 opponent average, and just four home runs allowed all year. The ghost fork doesn’t just miss bats—it erases threats. And tonight, it targets an Angels lineup that ranks bottom-five in strikeout rate versus right-handers and owns a dismal 6.5% walk rate versus lefties.
Anderson isn’t the answer. The lefty’s allowed 17 bombs in 101 innings and enters with a bloated 5.12 road ERA. His .564 slugging allowed first time through the order ranks second worst among qualified starters. The Mets, meanwhile, punish early mistakes—up 5-1 in first-inning run differential over their last six at home. Their top-of-order damage flows through Soto (.504 SLG, 24 HR), Alonso (.520 SLG), and Nimmo, who’s riding a four-game hit streak and owns a .462 slugging mark. Citi Field suppresses scoring, but Anderson’s flyball profile isn’t built to exploit it. He’ll be skating on glass.
Angels backers will cling to Taylor Ward’s recent tear—four homers in five road games, 23 bombs overall—but Senga neutralizes that fast. He leads all starters in limiting lefty line drive rate (15%) and holds opponents to .095 with runners in scoring position. Add Citi’s wind-in conditions and a run factor of 0.913, and Ward’s pop has little air beneath it. Even if Ward connects, there’s no depth behind him. Schanuel’s on base but not driving in runs, and Trout’s OBP has nosedived below .320 this month. They’ll have to string hits against a guy who doesn’t allow them.
Angels vs. Mets pick, best bet
Now let’s kill the narrative that the Angels are hot. Yes, they’ve won four of six—but against a Phillies team that fielded its bullpen for half the series. And while they’ve trended toward overs, nine of their last ten games have come in hitter-friendly parks. Citi is the opposite. The Mets bullpen may be taxed, but Senga routinely gives them length. New York’s 28-13 when its starter goes six-plus. With Diaz and Stanek rested, they’ll be ready to slam the door.
Let’s dive deeper: the Mets are 17-3 in their last 20 Monday games. They’re 10-4 in Senga starts this season. They’ve covered -1.5 in four of his last five. Meanwhile, the Angels have failed to cover the run line in seven of their last eight following a win. That’s trend meeting talent. New York has scored first in six of their last eight. They’ve led after three innings in five straight versus sub-.500 clubs. That matters when you’ve got the best first-inning ERA in baseball at home.
This is a clear mismatch. Senga at Citi Field is a cheat code, and Anderson’s barrel-rate problems won’t survive the top of this Mets order. I’m locking in Mets -1.5 at +110. The pitching gap is massive, the ballpark favors run suppression, and the Mets feast on losing teams.
Best bet: Mets -1.5 (+110) vs. Angels
