MLB Picks: Player Props and Team Props for Monday, July 21, 2025
Arizona Diamondbacks over 4.5 runs -115 vs. Houston Astros
If you’re a lefty facing the Diamondbacks and primarily rely on your fastball, it could be a long night at the office. That’s exactly the situation tonight with Colton Gordon taking the mound for the Astros. Gordon throws his four-seam fastball 44% of the time, but it hasn’t been particularly effective. Opposing hitters have posted a .362 wOBA against it, accounting for four of the 10 home runs he’s allowed.
Looking at the projected Diamondbacks lineup, they’ve collectively produced a .341 wOBA and a .209 ISO against four-seamers from lefties this season. If we expand the sample to include last year, those numbers climb to a .391 wOBA and a .232 ISO. I expect them to jump on Gordon early in this one.
Jacob Lopez over 5.5 strikeouts +110 vs. Texas Rangers
I was a bit surprised to see López getting plus money on his strikeout prop of 5.5 tonight against the Rangers. He’s made 10 starts and 14 appearances overall, posting an 11.1 K/9 across 55.2 innings. López has also been slightly better than his surface numbers suggest—his 4.20 ERA is backed by a 3.52 xERA.
Despite the Rangers’ offense experiencing a resurgence over the past month, they still offer some strikeout upside. Their projected lineup for tonight has a combined 23.5% strikeout rate against left-handed pitching. López has gone over 5.5 strikeouts in exactly half of his starts—five out of 10. He’s also faced the Rangers twice this season, once in relief and once as a starter, striking out eight over 4.1 combined innings.
Ivan Herrera 3+ total bases +145
The Cardinals are playing at Coors Field tonight, so you know the offense is in a great spot. Herrera has been a monster against left-handed pitching and tonight faces Austin Gomber. Against left-handed pitching this season, Herrera has a massive .496 wOBA with a .391 ISO through 46 at-bats. If we go back to include last season, Herrera has a .387 wOBA and a .208 ISO. Gomber hasn’t pitched much this season but at Coors does have a 7.36 ERA with a .449 wOBA and a 6.98 FIP.
