The No. 1 golfer in the Official World Golf Rankings was the overwhelming favorite coming to this year’s version of The Open Championship, but Scottie Scheffler ($14,200; 130 FPTS) stepped up and delivered a masterful performance to claim the win at Royal Portrush.
Scheffler started the day with a comfortable three-shot lead and expanded it with three birdies over his first five holes. He never looked back on his way to a -3 on the day, which he concluded with six straight pars coming home.
Scheffler finished the week at -17 to earn his first Claret Jug and fourth major championship. He will have a chance to complete the career grand slam at the U.S. Open next season. The 29-year-old now has an impressive 17 PGA TOUR wins, including two majors and four wins since May of this year.
He ended up four shots clear of the rest of the field. Harris English ($6,400; 103 FPTS) finished second with a -5 on Sunday for his best round of the tournament. Last week’s winner in Scotland, Chris Gotterup ($6,900; 103.5 FPTS), finished in solo third, while Matt Fitzpatrick ($7,800; 104 FPTS) and Wyndham Clark ($6,700; 100 FPTS) tied for fourth.

For fantasy golf contests, we also finished with a tie atop the PGA $2.75M FANTASY GOLF MILLIONAIRE [$1M TO 1ST]. Identical ntries from KoryC and egregis shared the top spot with English, Scheffler, Fitzpatrick, Gotterup, Russell Henley ($7,900; 83 FPTS) and Harry Hall ($6,400; 81 FPTS).
Next week, the PGA TOUR comes back across the pond for the 3M Open at TPC Twin Cities in Minnesota. That event is one of just two tournaments before the FedExCup Playoffs start in August.
