George Pickens Fantasy Football: Why WR’s move to Cowboys helps his potential

After playing his first three NFL seasons in Pittsburgh, George Pickens was traded to the Dallas Cowboys in May. The Cowboys sent over a 2026 third-round pick and a 2027 fifth-round pick in exchange for Pickens and a 2025 sixth-round pick.

The addition of Pickens to this Cowboys WR room will be a welcome one. It was a one-man show with CeeDee Lamb a season ago, finishing with 584 more receiving yards than any other player on the team. Pickens will take some of the pressure off of Lamb and has the potential to put up some big numbers of his own.

The Steelers offense isn’t exactly known to be pass-happy, but Pickens has averaged 947 receiving yards per season over his first three years. It will be his first experience as a true secondary option, but I think he will benefit from less coverage. The majority of defenses will likely continue to double-team Lamb, which should give Pickens a ton of single coverage opportunities.

In 2024, Pickens finished the season with 59 receptions, 900 yards and three touchdowns. I wouldn’t be shocked if he surpassed that in Dallas this season, with the Cowboys loving to pass the football as they ranked third in pass attempts per game (37.5) last season. A healthy Dak Prescott won’t hurt, either.

Pickens’ 171.4 FPTS last season was 42nd among WRs on DraftKings. He averaged 12.2 FPTS per game, the 39th-best mark among wideouts. Pickens is still a solid WR2 option in fantasy football, and I think he has a ton of upside in 2025 with this new offense.

Pickens seems to be fitting into his new home well in Dallas, with OC Brian Schottenheimer having this to say about the former Steeler at the start of training camp:

“He’s happy, he’s in a good spot. I think people that don’t know George need to get to know George, because when you get to know George, you’re going to be blown away by the heart the guy has.”

I truly believe the sky is the limit for Pickens in this offense, and I expect him to have a career year as long as the QB play in Dallas is stellar. I’m buying all the Pickens stock I can get.
