The NFL season is right on the horizon, and with it comes all the action on the field and in the betting slips. What are NFL Futures?
Futures bets allow you to follow the same wager throughout a season. The betting odds for futures markets open before the start of the season and take bets throughout the year, with bookmakers adjusting the odds as the action on the field unfolds. The most common examples of this would be betting a team to make the playoffs, to win the Super Bowl, or a player to win the MVP. Rather than one individual game deciding the outcome, it takes the season-long results before the result is fully determined. This can also lead to much more lucrative payouts, with the additional risk of injuries or other factors in mind.
What are Parlays?
A parlay is when a bet is placed that has two or more bets combined into one wager. Rather than it being dependent on one specific result, every leg must hit for the bet to ultimately be successful. If one of the legs does not hit, the bet does not cash.
While this carries more risk, the payout for parlays escalates at a high rate and is dependent on which wagers you put in it. This can occur across multiple games, a same-game parlay, and in the futures markets. You simply log onto DraftKings, select all the bets you wish to place, and then await the results.
Building NFL Futures Parlays
NFL futures parlays involve selecting multiple NFL futures bets. For the wager to be successful, all legs must cash. You can check out the most popular futures parlays on DK Network here to see which bets are catching other users’ eyes.
But there are plenty of options for you to create your own as well. There are a variety of options from team futures to player awards, as well as stats leaders, and whether or not a player will reach a specific level of production.
For example, I am backing the Philadelphia Eagles to win the NFC East at -130 odds on DraftKings Sportsbook. In addition, I like the Cincinnati Bengals to win the NFC North, which holds +250 odds. While you can bet each of these individually, combining the two brings the payout to +519 odds.
To take an even larger swing, let’s look at the odds for a Super Bowl repeat. The Philadelphia Eagles hold +310 odds of winning the NFC while the Kansas City Chiefs hold +400 odds of winning the AFC. Combining the pair of bets lifts these odds to +1950 on DraftKings Sportsbook.
Or if you have some predictions for which teams will make the playoffs, these also can be parlayed. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers hold -170 odds of making the playoffs, the Houston Texans hold -130 odds of qualifying for the postseason, and the Pittsburgh Steelers hold +125 odds of advancing past the regular season. When parlaying all three teams to make the playoffs, the odds leap to +532 on DraftKings Sportsbook.
