Following the Genesis Scottish Open, The Open Championship will be played at Royal Portrush Golf Club (par 71, 7,381 yards, fescue greens) in Portrush, Ireland. This field features 156 golfers and there will be a top 70 and ties cut after the first two rounds.
Below, I have featured two of my favorite long shot outright bets to win The Open Championship on DraftKings Sportsbook.
Harry Hall (+11000)
Hall has been fantastic lately and this number is far too long for the 27-year-old. Hall has made 13 straight cuts and his last seven finishes have all been top 25 results. Most notably, Hall finished T6 at the Charles Schwab Challenge, T9 at the Travelers Championship and T17 at last week’s Genesis Scottish Open. Hall posted a six-under 64 during the second round at the Renaissance Club on Friday, and seeing him flourish at this links venue was encouraging, as he faces another links course in Royal Portursh at The Open Championship this week.
This will be Hall’s first attempt at this major, but he has truly been one of the best players in the world recently. When we compare this world class field’s last 24 rounds, Hall ranks fourth in total strokes gained. Hall has shot under par in 35 of his past 40 rounds and he ranks second on the PGA TOUR in par four performance this season, only trailing world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler.
Being an elite par scorer makes Hall a great match for Royal Portrush. When Shane Lowry won The Open Championship by six shots at this par 71 in 2019, the Irishman led his field in par four efficiency. Hall is going to breakthrough for his first-career win soon and the Englishman hoisting the Claret Jug this weekend is in the realm of possibilities given his incredible form.
Tony Finau (+14000)
Finau has played well at The Open Championships in the past and his best finish at this major notably came at Royal Portrush in 2019, when he finished T3 and ranked third for the event in GIR%. Overall, Finau has made 6-of-8 cuts at The Open Championship with four top 20 finishes and he is gaining 1.5 strokes per round at this major.
Finau hasn’t had a great season by his standards, but he has still generated five top 25 finishes, including a T19 at the PGA Championship in May. Plus, Finau hasn’t competed in nearly a month and maybe the extra time off has been beneficial for his game.
Finau has been in the mix at many majors throughout his career, with 11 major top 10 finishes on his resume. The six-time PGA TOUR winner is worth rolling the dice on at this very long +14000 price.
