2025 MLB All-Star Game results, highlights, stats

The crown returns to the National League as its All Stars defeated the American League 6-6 (4-3) at Truist Park on Tuesday night.

The 2025 MLB All-Star Game ended with an inaugural Home Run Swing Off. Since the game was tied at the end of nine innings, three players from each team got three swings apiece. The team with the most home runs won the game.

Brent Rooker, Randy Arozarena and Jonathan Aranda represented the American League, while Kyle Stowers, Kyle Schwarber and Pete Alonso batted for the National League. Schwarber hit three homers in three swings, giving the NL the 4-3 win.

Schwarber won the the All-Star Game MVP.

The National League got on the board early, taking advantage of Tarik Skubal in the first inning. Shohei Ohtani and Ronald Acuna led off with back-to-back singles, and Ketel Marte knocked in both with a double down the right field line.

Pete Alonso and Corbin Carroll extended the lead in the sixth inning with a three-run and solo homer, respectively.

This is the second time in three years that the National League has won the All-Star Game. The trophy had previously lived with the American League from 2013-2022, but the tide is shifting.

First inning

Paul Skenes made quick work of the American League in the top of the first. He became the first pitcher ever to start the All-Star Game in his first two seasons.

The National League got on the board early against Tarik Skubal. Shohei Ohtani and Ronald Acuna had back-to-back singles before Ketel Marte sliced a double down the right field line to score two. The NL took a 2-0 lead in the first.

Second inning

The top of the second was an emotional one as Clayton Kershaw took the mound for perhaps the final All-Star Game of his career. He faced two batters, striking out one in the appearance.

Carlos Rodon pitched a solid bottom half aside from Pete Crow-Armstrong’s double. It’s his first ever All-Star Game hit.

Third inning

Just like Crow-Armstrong, Junior Caminero earned his first ever All-Star Game hit. He tallied a single to lead off the third.

A few batters later, Jacob Wilson flew out to left, creating this funny moment between Cubs teammates Kyle Tucker and Crow-Armstrong.

Fourth inning

The American League had a two-out rally going in the top of the fourth. Cal Raleigh singled to right field and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. singled to center, putting runners on first and third. Ryan O’Hearn grounded out, leaving two stranded.

Fifth inning

Lots of substitutions in the fifth inning for both clubs. Bobby Witt Jr., Jazz Chisholm Jr., Byron Buxton and Corbin Carroll were among those subbed in. Score remained 2-0 with 1-2-3 innings for both squads.

Sixth inning

Up to this point, offense was scarce and the game was flying by. Pete Alonso wasn’t having that. He hit a three-run homer to right field, scoring Fernando Tatis Jr. and Brendan Donovan. The National League extended its lead to 5-0 with zero outs.

Two outs later, Carroll crushed one to right field for 414 feet. The National League took a 6-0 lead heading into the seventh inning.

Seventh inning

The American League isn’t going down without a fight. Brent Rooker hit a three-run homer to left field, driving in Alejandro Kirk and Jonathan Aranda.

A couple batters later, Witt grounded out to second, scoring Maikel Garcia. The National League led 6-4 at the end of the seventh.

Eighth inning

Jacob Misiorowski made his All-Star Game debut, allowing one hit in the top of the eighth inning. The National League left two runners stranded in the bottom of the eighth with the score still 6-4.

Ninth inning

Eugenio Suarez kicks off the ninth inning with an incredible bare-handed play to get the first out.

Buxton hit a one-out double in the top of the ninth, and Witt followed up with a double of his own. The American League trails 6-5 with one out.

Matt Olson snagged a chopper down the right field line to get Chisholm out. Witt advanced to third with two outs.

Steven Kwan tallied an infield single to tie the game 6-6 with two outs in the ninth. Kwan stole second on the first pitch to Randy Arozarena, but Edwin Diaz struck him out to end the top half.

Aroldis Chapman pitches a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth.

The game remains tied as the teams head in to a swing-off. Three players bat from each team; each player gets three swings apiece. Teams will alternate and the winner is the team with the most home runs.
