Golf Best Bets: Cut Parlay for the Open Championship

Updated:

By: Alex Hunter

We travel to Royal Portrush Golf Club (par 71, 7,381 yards, fescue greens) in Portrush, Ireland for the Open Championship, which is the fourth and final major of the season. The Open Championship is hosting 156 golfers and there will be a slightly expanded cut, with the top-70 and ties advancing after the first two rounds.

Below, I have featured a cut parlay to consider for the Open Championship.

Open Championship Cut Parlay

  • Harris English to make the cut -205
  • Thorbjorn Olesen to make the cut -145
  • Antoine Rozner to make the cut +100

Harris English to make the cut

English has been very reliable this season, making 15-of-17 cuts. At last week’s Genesis Scottish Open, which is a great warm up event for the Open Championship as both events are played at links courses, English finished T22nd. He gained strokes in every major category, except with his putter. English has made 6-of-9 cuts at the Open Championship, and he has advanced to the weekend at seven consecutive majors, including a runner-up at the PGA Championship in May, which is the best major finish of his career. English has gained strokes on approach at three straight events, and his strong iron play sets him up well for Royal Portrush. Shane Lowry won the 2019 Open Championship at Royal Portrush by six shots and during this convincing victory, he led the field in SG APP.

Thorbjorn Olesen to make the cut

Olesen has made seven of his last nine cuts on the PGA TOUR, and the Danish professional has competed at Royal Portrush twice. First, Olesen finished T18th at the par 71 for the 2012 Irish Open. Then, he finished T57th at Royal Portrush for the 2019 Open Championship. Including a T9 in 2012, Olesen has made 6-of-10 cuts at the Open Championship. As a former nine-time winner on the DP World TOUR, Olesen is at his best competing overseas, and his expertise for links golf should result in a made cut this week.

Antoine Rozner to make the cut

Rozner has finished T59th and T20th in his two starts at the Open Championship, and the 32-year-old has been extremely consistent recently. Rozner has made 13 straight cuts, and he has finished inside the top-25 in three of his past five starts, including a T22 at last week’s Genesis Scottish Open. The French professional’s ball striking has been terrific, with him gaining strokes on approach at seven tournaments in a row. Rozner impressively ranks fifth in SG APP when we compare this world-class field’s last 24 rounds, and he has a great chance to make the cut at Royal Portrush in this encouraging form.

Cut Parlay Odds: +402
