Boston has rattled off seven straight wins, surging to the top of the AL East with undeniable authority. Tampa Bay arrives at 50-44, blending potent power with streaky slumps that expose its rotation. This one promises Fenway fireworks, where Boston’s relentless momentum clashes with Tampa’s must-win urgency. Below, I’ve got my preview, prediction, and best bet for this Friday night baseball game between the Red Sox and the Rays.
Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.
Red Sox vs. Rays prediction, preview
Boston’s lineup scalds right-handers to a .366 wOBA this month, fourth-best in MLB. But both offenses have, generally, been on fire. Jonathan Aranda has hit safely in six straight, slashing .326/.398/.550 with three homers in that span. Aranda’s 136 wRC+ versus righties this month pairs perfectly with Fenway Park’s 11 percent run spike. Trevor Story has crushed 12 extra-base hits over his last ten games, pushing his ISO to .301. Wilyer Abreu has logged a 158 wRC+ over his last 15 games, barrel rate at 12 percent, driving pressure on any pitcher. Junior Caminero slashes .300/.370/.510 with 18 runs and 20 extra-base hits in his last twelve contests. Boston ranks seventh in MLB with a 108 wRC+ at Fenway this season.
On the bump, Hunter Dobbins carries a 4.10 ERA but a promising 3.72 xFIP, reflecting much better underlying results. His 26 percent CSW rate sits in baseball’s 65th percentile, and he’s limited barrels to 4.5%—top ten among starters. Dobbins’s changeup has generated a 42 percent whiff rate on swings outside the zone. He’s shown handshake-worthy control, issuing just 1.2 walks per nine.
The Rays counter with Drew Rasmussen, whose 2.82 ERA demands respect, certainly. Yet his 3.05 SIERA and 4.1 K/BB ratio hint at middling sustainability. His 54 percent groundball rate invites sinker-flatted contact that Boston’s active defense will clean up. The Sox rank fourth in Defensive Runs Saved this month. Not to mention, he’s just opening to give way to John Boyle, who has limited-but-impressive-all-the-same major league experience.
Rays vs. Red Sox pick, best bet
You’ll hear chatter about Tampa’s power. They’ve hit 15 homers in their last twelve games, yet they’ve gone 3-9 in that span. Those solo shots won’t offset Boston’s multi-run rallies with men in scoring position. Boston ranks fifth in MLB with a .355 wOBA with RISP this month.
Fenway’s forecast calls for 76°F and a six mph southwest breeze blowing in from right center, reducing homer risk on pulled fly balls. Boston’s seven-man bullpen carries a 3.12 high-leverage FIP versus Tampa’s 4.35, posting a 67% save rate.
Boston has taken both prior series from Tampa this year, outscoring the Rays 15–9 in those six games. They’re 5-2 SU and 6-1 ATS in the season series.
Boston owns the longest active win streak in baseball at seven games, proving this club thrives under pressure. Their offense has ripped off 35 runs and 42 hits over that span, crushing pitching staffs with relentless accuracy. Fenway’s friendly confines have amplified every surge, turning tight games into decisive victories.
We ride again. Eight in a row for the Red Sox.
Best bet: Red Sox (-115) vs. Rays
