Another jam-packed MLB slate is on tap for baseball fans on Wednesday. The action begins with a superstar showdown in New York, as Aaron Judge’s Yankees host Cal Raleigh’s Mariners. Elsewhere, Brewers rookie phenom Jacob Misiorowski takes on Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers. As a nightcap, the Phillies travel to San Francisco for a potential playoff preview with the Giants.

Juan Soto more than 1.5 total bases
Of the many deserving All-Star snubs, Juan Soto’s name stands out. Despite a difficult first few months, New York’s slugger really turned it on in June. The outfielder is now slashing .263/.396/.508 with 21 home runs and 51 RBIs. Apparently, those numbers weren’t good enough to earn a trip to the Midsummer Classic. Always one to meet the moment, expect Soto to take his anger out on the field against the Orioles tonight.
Pitching for Baltimore on Tuesday is Brandon Young. The rookie’s numbers are abysmal (7.02 ERA, 1.98 WHIP), albeit over just four appearances. Most recently, the 25-year-old allowed three earned runs over four innings against the Rangers. Tonight’s matchup against Soto and the Mets presents a more difficult challenge. The Dominican superstar is hitting .368 with nine home runs against right-handed pitching since June 1st. One of baseball’s most unproven arms vs. one of its best batters? The choice here is obvious.
Ryan Pepiot more than 5.5 strikeouts thrown
Despite cooling down over the past few weeks, the Rays find themselves in contention for the AL East crown. That’s due in large part to one of the league’s deepest pitching staffs. Ryan Pepiot in particular has enjoyed a stellar season for Tampa Bay. Over 102.1 innings of work, the right-hander has notched a 3.34 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 101 strikeouts.
Tonight will be a litmus test for both Pepiot and the Rays. The American League-leading Tigers possess baseball’s fifth-highest scoring offense. However, this club does have a tendency for swinging and missing. This season, Detroit has averaged 8.67 strikeouts per game, the league’s ninth-highest mark. Pepiot has logged at least seven K’s in four of his previous five outings. Even against a terrific lineup, Tampa’s underrated hurler is capable of delivering on Tuesday.
Seth Lugo more than 5.5 strikeouts thrown
In spite of his disappointing teammates, Seth Lugo continues to dominate for the Royals. This season, the 36-year-old has posted a 2.65 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 83 strikeouts during 16 outings. Most remarkable has been the veteran’s consistency. Lugo has allowed more than three earned runs only twice this season. Over his last five games, the All-Star has allowed a combined total of three earned runs (0.90 ERA).
In most matchups, Lugo would be a solid fantasy baseball pick. That’s especially true against the Pirates, one of baseball’s worst squads. Pittsburgh is averaging just 3.40 runs per game this season, tied for the sport’s lowest total. Away from home, the Buccos are striking out at the league’s sixth-highest rate per game (9.38). Lugo has notched seven K’s in each of his last four appearances. Expect that trend to continue on Tuesday.
Mitch Keller less than 2.5 earned runs allowed
Let’s stay in Kansas City, where Mitch Keller is hoping to deliver once again. Much like Lugo, the seventh-year pro gets almost no run support from his teammates. Regardless, that hasn’t stopped the righty from putting together an impressive 2025 campaign. Through 106.1 innings, Keller has recorded a 3.64 ERA and 1.19 WHIP. Still, a lackluster 7.1 K/9 rate means most of his outs are generated via weak contact.
Fortunately for Keller, tonight’s matchup presents a golden opportunity to dominate. The Royals are tied with the Pirates for baseball’s fewest runs scored per game (3.40). However, unlike Pittsburgh, Kansas City doesn’t swing and miss very often. The club’s hitters often swing early, leading to plenty of quick outs. Coming into this contest, Keller has surrendered just five runs over his previous 24.0 innings pitched (1.88 ERA). He should find a way to keep things rolling against this struggling KC lineup.
Clayton Kershaw less than 16.5 outs
History was made last week, as Clayton Kershaw became just the 20th pitcher ever to record 3,000 career strikeouts. As impressive as the feat was, Los Angeles’ right-hander didn’t look great against the White Sox (6 IP, 4 ER). The 37-year-old is still a capable starter, but he can no longer be considered an ace. Over 44.2 innings pitched for the Dodgers this season, Kershaw has accounted for a 3.43 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 32 strikeouts.
Tonight has all the makings of a classic ‘letdown’ game following last week’s emotional outing. The Brewers are red-hot, having scored more runs than any other team since June 20th (102). Last night, Milwaukee wrecked Yoshinobu Yamamoto, piling on five runs in the first inning. Kershaw should be more productive on Tuesday, but that isn’t saying much. Against a deep, dangerous lineup, it’s difficult to envision six or more innings from Los Angeles’ veteran.
Jose Altuve more than 1.5 hits + runs + RBIs
In a career filled with hitting excellence, 2025 has been a bit of a disappointment for Jose Altuve. Through 88 games played, the second baseman is slashing just .268/.328/.451 at the plate. However, the nine-time All-Star has shown some signs of life recently. Over his last ten appearances, the former MVP is hitting .308 with four home runs and 12 RBIs.
It helps that tonight, Altuve’s Astros will be taking on a relatively inexperienced arm. Joey Cantillo will get the nod on Tuesday for the visiting Guardians. Despite decent numbers on paper (3.41 ERA), the southpaw has gotten somewhat lucky so far (4.16 FIP). Against right-handed hitters, the second-year pro has allowed a .333 on-base percentage. It helps that Houston has scored the second-most runs in baseball over its last ten games (63). With more runners on and some extra at-bats, Altuve should have several chances to make an impact.
