San Diego Padres vs. Arizona Diamondbacks prediction, pick for Monday 7/7/25

The NL West race tightens tonight as the Padres (46-40) host the D-backs (43-44) in a pivotal opener. San Diego has won three of four to surge into second while Arizona has dropped four of six and lags. This four-game set carries playoff implications and promises a shift in momentum ahead of the All-Star break. Biggest story of the night? Yu Darvish’s long-awaited return, his slider ready to be unleashed. After a four-inning rehab tune-up, he’ll need to punch out elite bats early or watch his own leash tighten immediately. Below, I’ve got my preview, prediction, and best bet for this Monday night baseball game between the Padres and the Diamondbacks.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

Padres vs. Diamondbacks prediction, preview

San Diego’s offense ranks 23rd with 4.09 runs per game, masking deeper firepower. Fernando Tatis Jr. commands attention with a .444 slugging percentage and 15 homers. Manny Machado’s .351 on-base rate fuels rally potential each time he steps in. Luis Arraez has popped for a .401 slugging mark and a .292 batting average. Jackson Merrill’s recent strikeouts set him up for a bounce-back under Petco’s short porch.

Arizona counters with the third-ranked offense, compiling 5.2 runs per contest. Ketel Marte (.293 average, 19 homers, 36 walks) strains every infield shift. Eugenio Suárez’s league-leading 28 home runs shatter bats when he lines one. Josh Naylor’s .460 slugging percentage and .298 average drive consistent extra-base potential. Diamondbacks feast on lefties, posting a .284 average in 2024 road games. X-factor Corbin Carroll returns fresh from the IL, set to ignite the leadoff spot. These bats never rest, especially when matched against a bullpen as thin as San Diego’s.

Onto the night’s biggest story…

Diamondbacks vs. Padres pick, best bet

Petco Park’s reputation as a pitcher’s haven crumbles in this series opener. Six straight overs here demolish that myth. Darvish’s slider strike rate registered 72 percent last year, but he’s untested in 2025. His four-inning rehab outing yielded two runs on two hits with four strikeouts. Expect a short leash in this debut, fueling early bullpen deployment. Gallen’s 5.45 ERA and 1.73 HR/9 scream warning signs under these lights. He’s already surrendered 20 homers in 104 innings this year, matching a career high.

Weather forecasts call for clear skies and 72 degrees at first pitch. Light winds seven to nine miles per hour coax flies into the gaps and stands. Head-to-head data shows six of their last six games at Petco topped the total. Betting trends reveal the Over strikes in 46 of 89 Diamondbacks games and 35 of 89 Padres games this season. Run expectancy models spike when Petco hosts post–All-Star break matchups. Park factors undervalue situational matchups, mispricing totals under 8.5.

Get the value while you can. And remember: Darvish’s slack will be taut.

Best bet: Padres vs. Diamondbacks o8.0 total runs (-120)
