There are 10 games of MLB action taking place across today’s Monday, July 7th slate. The action will kick off at 6:40 p.m. ET between the Tampa Bay Rays and Detroit Tigers. Games will be taking place all across the night, building out to a 9:45 p.m. ET start between the Philadelphia Phillies and San Francisco Giants. One of the more unique ways to get in on the action, and one of the newest features on DraftKings this year is Pick6 Fantasy Baseball!
This article will look at my top Pick6 plays for today’s action, 7/7/25. You simply choose whether each set statistic will be more or less than the set number. With the stage set, here are my favorite picks on tonight’s MLB slate.
Riley Greene More Than 0.5 Runs Batted In
The fifth overall pick in the 2019 MLB draft, Riley Greene, is finding his stride at the Major League level after his All-Star breakout last year. The Tigers outfielder is slashing .286/.340/.539 with a career-high .880 OPS. Greene has tallied 24 home runs and 71 RBIs already this season, just shy of the 24 home runs and 74 RBIs he tallied across 137 games last year.
Detroit will face the Rays tonight with right-handed pitcher Shane Baz getting the start. Twenty-one of Greene’s 22 home runs have come against righties this year. He is hitting .311 with a .991 OPS against right-handed pitchers on the season. In addition, Greene has faced Baz three times in his career, going 2-for-2 with a home run, a single and a walk. Baz is posting a 4.33 ERA on the season overall and has given up 16 home runs across his first 17 starts. Greene has tallied a home run in four of his last eight games as well. While a home run could very well be on the table, I am opting to be a bit safer and backing Greene to tally more than 0.5 RBIs. He is seeing the ball well as of late, is strong against right-handed pitchers and has an impressive track record against Baz in the past. Count on the Tigers’ star to drive in a run again tonight.
Trevor Story More Than 1.5 Total Bases
Trevor Story has been incredibly effective lately and has a strong chance to add to his output as he faces his former team. Over the last week, Story has hit .480 at the plate with three home runs. He enters on an eight-game hitting streak and has tallied more than 1.5 total bases in six of these eight games.
The Rockies will be starting Austin Gomber tonight, with this being just his fifth appearance of the season. Gomber has already allowed four home runs and is posting a 5.49 ERA. This includes allowing nine earned runs on 12 hits in his second start of the season. Gomber is a left-hander, and Story has had success facing this side of the plate. So far this season, he is posting a .776 OPS against lefties and a .279 batting average. On the season overall, Story is slashing .252/.293/.402 with 13 home runs and 53 RBIs. Since June 28th, he has been slashing .469/.500/.875.
Story will cool down eventually, but with a struggling pitcher and on a hot streak, now is a great time to capitalize. Look for him to extend his eight-game hitting streak and tally more than 1.5 total bases for the seventh time in the past nine games.
Jose Ramirez More Than 0.5 Runs Batted In
The Cleveland Guardians slugger enters with slash lines of .300/.362/.489 with 14 home runs and 39 RBIs so far this season. He has been especially strong against left-handed pitching, slashing .344/.393/.479 with a .872 OPS, and he has a .505 slugging percentage against left-handed pitchers in his career.
Left-handed pitcher Colton Gordon will get the start for the Astros tonight. The 26-year-old enters with a 4.37 ERA with 57 hits and 22 earned runs allowed across his first 45.1 innings pitched at the Major League level. Gordon has especially struggled against righties, allowing a .307 batting average and .878 OPS to right-handed hitters compared to a .278 batting average and .658 OPS to lefties.
Ramirez has been in the middle of a bit of a rough skid, but he has shown some signs of life, including a home run and three hits over his past three games. With a favorable matchup, look for him to begin fully snapping out of things and drive in a run tonight. Ramirez is well behind pace for the 118 RBIs he tallied last season, and this is the type of matchup that could get him going.
Jacob deGrom More Than 6.5 Strikeouts
The Texas Rangers will face off with the Angels tonight with Jacob deGrom on the mound. The two-time Cy Young Award winner enters with a 9-2 record, a 2.13 ERA and 100 strikeouts over his first 101.1 innings pitched. This comes after a tough opening three starts to the season in which deGrom allowed seven combined earned runs and was unable to pitch to the sixth inning in any of the three matchups. Taking out the first three starts, he is posting a 1.77 ERA and 2.53 FIP.
The Angels have an offense that can put up some runs, but they have the highest strikeout rate against right-handed pitching of any team in the MLB since April 1st. They are one of only two teams with a strikeout rate above 25% against righties during this stretch. They average 9.84 strikeouts per game as a team on the season overall, which is also the worst rate in the league.
While deGrom is not putting away hitters quite at the rate he did in his prime, this is still a great matchup for him to capitalize on. His 8.9 strikeouts per nine innings is the lowest output since 2016, with deGrom averaging 10.6 strikeouts per nine innings throughout his career and producing 11.8 just last year. The four-time All-Star has still tallied more than 6.5 strikeouts in eight of his past 14 starts and will be aided by the Angels’ willingness to chase. Expect deGrom to take advantage of the Angels’ strikeout struggles and sit down more than 6.5 hitters tonight.
Ketel Marte More Than 1.5 Hits, Runs & RBIs
It will be an interesting matchup in San Diego tonight as Yu Darvish is set to make his first start of the 2025 season after recovering from his elbow injury. Darvish is one of the best pitchers in baseball when he is at his best, but he has not pitched since September 2024. This has also been a matchup that Ketel Marte has gotten the better of throughout the years. Across 40 career plate appearances against Darvish, Marte has 10 total hits, two home runs, a double and a triple with four walks. He has slashed .278/.350/.528 with a .878 OPS in these matchups.
Marte has been on a hot streak of late and has tallied more than 1.5 combined hits, runs and RBIs in five of his last eight games. This includes tallying a home run in four of these. The 31-year-old is a switch-hitter but has been better against right-handed pitching this year, posting a .313 batting average and .631 slugging percentage. Petco Park is a hitter-friendly park, and Marte could have some very friendly matchups throughout this game.
While his success against Darvish speaks for itself, don’t expect him to pitch deep into this game with it being his first game back. The Padres also burned through five relievers yesterday and four relievers on both Friday and Saturday. With Marte facing a taxed pitching staff headlined by a player he has had success against, I like his chances of recording more than 1.5 combined hits, runs and RBIs.
Cristopher Sanchez More Than 5.5 Strikeouts
In the final matchup of the night, the San Francisco Giants will host the Philadelphia Phillies with Cristopher Sanchez on the mound. Sanchez announced his presence to the MLB world last season, earning his first All-Star appearance. Despite already posting a better WAR, lower ERA, better FIP, better WHIP and improved strikeout rate, Sanchez did not make the cut for the All-Star game this season. The 28-year-old has a chance to prove why this is a mistake just over 24 hours since this became official, and he faces a great opponent to do just this.
Sanchez has faced the Giants twice so far in his young career and has been terrific in both matchups. Across 13 total innings pitched, the left-hander has allowed eight hits and two earned runs while striking out 19 (!) hitters. This includes 12 strikeouts in the matchup with the Giants earlier this year. San Francisco is posting the 12th-highest strikeouts per game at 8.47 and the seventh-highest strikeouts against left-handed pitchers. It is striking out at the fifth-highest rate against lefties over the past month, a frightening 26.1% of at-bats, and it was struck out eight times by lefty starter Jacob Lopez last night in only 4.1 innings.
Overall, Sanchez has logged 108 total strikeouts on the season and tallied more than 5.5 strikeouts in nine of 17 games this year. While he may not reach the heights of the 12 strikeouts he produced in his first matchup against the Giants, feel confident in Sanchez tallying more than 5.5 strikeouts for the 10th time this season and carrying a bit of a chip on his shoulder following the All-Star snub.
