New York Mets vs. New York Yankees prediction, pick for Sunday 7/6/25

The Yankees walk into Citi Field desperate to snap a brutal six-game slide that’s seen their bullpen shredded and confidence rattled. The Mets, riding a 6-1 heater at home, are surging at precisely the right moment, eyeing a series sweep. This isn’t just a crosstown rivalry anymore—this is a battle with playoff positioning and pride hanging in the balance. The stage is set for a game that demands focus, fire, and a bet that cuts through the noise. Below, I’ve got my preview, prediction, and best bet for this Sunday baseball game between the Mets and the Yankees.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

Mets vs. Yankees prediction, preview

The Yankees walk into Citi Field desperate, their six-game collapse shredding confidence and exposing a battered bullpen. I expect no mercy tonight. Max Fried commands the spotlight. His 2.13 ERA and 0.94 WHIP scream dominance. He’s the lifeline for a Yankees team leaking runs at a horrifying 8.48 ERA clip over their last week. Fried’s sharp 23 walks over 114 innings underscores his precision. He generates soft contact relentlessly—just nine home runs allowed this year. He’s no savior, though. The Mets lineup has been cashing in on every mistake.

Citi Field has turned into their playground. The Mets are 6-1 in their last seven at home. They’ve scored at least six in three straight. Juan Soto’s .401 OBP sets the tone. Pete Alonso’s 73 RBIs ensure those base runners don’t linger. Soto’s 51.2% hard-hit rate over his last 50 plate appearances shows just how dialed in he is. Alonso’s 15.3% barrel rate during this hot streak makes him a constant extra-base threat. The Yankees bullpen is patched together, beaten down, and entirely untrustworthy. Fried needs to pitch into the eighth to protect a lead. That’s asking a lot. The Mets’ bats are too hot right now. Soto, Baty, McNeil—they’re timing up everything. They’ve hit the over in seven of eight. That trend’s no fluke.

Yankees vs. Mets pick, best bet

IOpponents will argue Fried’s excellence can anchor the under. I don’t buy it. The Yankees have cleared the total in seven straight. The Mets pen game opens doors. Chris Devenski’s 0.94 WHIP masks his limited 5.1 innings this year. He’s not going deep. The parade of Mets arms means matchups galore—and scoring chances pile up. Citi’s mid-80s heat and wind out to left-center give fly balls extra life. Aaron Judge enters with a 57.8% hard-hit rate and .692 xSLG over his last ten games—he’s smashing baseballs. Giancarlo Stanton’s .405 wOBA in July highlights how his bat has reignited.

Market support for the under is misguided. The conditions, forms, and bullpen fatigue all scream runs. Both teams have been playing track meets. Yankees pitching hasn’t shown they can hold anyone down lately. The Mets keep cashing in. I’m locking in the over 8.5. That number will not survive these bats and conditions. This is an over game. No question.

Best bet: Mets vs. Yankees o9.0 runs (-120)
