Golf Best Bets: Cut Parlay for the John Deere Classic

The PGA TOUR season continues this week with the John Deere Classic at TPC Deere Run (par 71, 7,289 yards, bentgrass greens) in Silvis, Illinois. There will be 156 golfers competing and a top-65 and ties cut after the first two rounds.

Below, I have featured a cut parlay to consider for the John Deere Classic.

John Deere Classic Cut Parlay

  • Lee Hodges to make the cut -190
  • Keith Mitchell to make the cut -190
  • Zach Johnson to make the cut -120

Lee Hodges to make the cut

Hodges has advanced to the weekend in both of his starts at TPC Deere Run and the veteran has made 9-of-13 solo cuts this season. Hodges arrives in Silvis riding a three made cut streak, which is a run that includes a T9 at the RBC Canadian Open. The 30-year-old has gained strokes on approach at a whopping 11 straight events and he ranks 29th in SG APP for the season. Hodges also ranks 16th in par four performance, setting him up perfectly for his return to TPC Deere Run. Notably, each of the last seven winners at this par 71 have finished the tournament top-three in par four efficiency.

Keith Mitchell to make the cut

Mitchell missed the cut at last week’s Rocket Mortgage Classic, but this was a rare occurrence. This season, Mitchell has made 12-of-15 solo cuts with seven top-25 finishes. Ranking fourth in BOB% and 13th in par four performance this season, Mitchell is a match made in heaven for the easy TPC Deere Run. He should have another strong performance at the venue this week. Mitchell has made 3-of-4 cuts at TPC Deere Run, including a T7 in 2018 and a T18 last season.

Zach Johnson to make the cut

Johnson and the John Deere Classic go hand in hand. The 49-year-old has competed at TPC Deere Run a whopping 22 times and he has made the cut in 19 of those starts. Johnson won the 2012 John Deere Classic, which is just one of his seven top-five finishes at TPC Deere Run. Johnson is gaining an excellent 1.59 strokes per round in 82 rounds at this par 71. The veteran has this tournament circled on his calendar every year, so Johnson missing the cut would be a major letdown for him. Johnson has made 6-of-10 solo cuts with three top-25 finishes this season and he should have been far more favorited than -120 to make the cut this week.
