The Memphis Grizzlies cannot seem to shake their bad injury luck. Only hours after signing a massive five-year, $240 million extension, Jaren Jackson Jr. was hurt in an off-site practice.
A key part of the update is that the turf toe injury will require a repair procedure. That surgery carries a timeline of 3-6 months in recovery, which puts his availability for the start of the season in doubt. It’s a brutal blow for the Grizzlies and, most importantly, for JJJ.
Jackson Jr., 25, is coming off arguably his best season in the NBA. The former DPOY continued his excellent work on the defensive end of the floor, making the NBA’s All-Defense second team. He also averaged a career high in points per 100 possessions, shooting 48.8% from the floor and 37.5% from the three-point range. JJJ leaped to become Memphis’s clear best player as Ja Morant regresses.
With Desmond Bane being traded to Orlando this offseason, the Grizzlies were counting on Jaren Jackson Jr. as a key piece on both ends of the floor. Playing in a competitive Western Conference of the NBA, any significant time he misses could sink their season. Jackson Jr., the Grizzlies, and Memphis’ fans will be waiting for a positive update.
As this story unfolds, we will provide updates as needed.
