The Baltimore Orioles have placed right-handed pitcher Zach Eflin on the 15-day injured list with lower back discomfort. The 31-year-old was forced to leave Saturday’s start after just one inning due to the back issue. He allowed four earned runs and five hits across the opening inning.
Injuries have not been kind to the Orioles this season, and Eflin is the latest player to be impacted. He also had previously landed on the 15-day IL with a right lat strain back in April, which ended up sidelining him for over a month. Baltimore now has 12 players on the injured list, including key starters Kyle Bradish and Grayson Rodriguez, who each have not thrown a pitch thus far this season.
Eflin was traded to the Orioles last season and impressed during his half-season with the team. Across his nine starts, he posted a 5-2 record and a 2.60 ERA. Eflin has had more ups and downs this year, with his ERA jumping to 5.95 after allowing the four runs in just one inning against the Rays this weekend.
