Tarik Skubal is one of the best strikeout pitchers in the game, as the 32.1% strikeout rate is third in MLB and the 16.6% swinging strike rate is tied for the best. He’s racked up double-digit strikeouts in four starts this season, with a high of 13 against the Cleveland Guardians in late May.
On Sunday against the Minnesota Twins, Skubal replicated the feat, but this time in only seven innings of work. From the outset, Skubal was dialed in and something magical was in the air.
He struck out every Twins starter in the lineup while Carlos Correa, Ty France, Harrison Bader and Brooks Lee all took the walk of shame back to the dugout twice.
His final strikeout of the night was via an inside fastball clocked at 100 mph.
On the night, Skubal threw 93 pitches, 67 for strikes. He went seven innings and allowed only a hit and one walk.
