Detroit stands tall atop the AL Central, powered by the brilliance of Tarik Skubal and a lineup finding its thunder at the right time. Minnesota, battered and searching for answers, stumbles into Comerica Park hoping to salvage pride but bringing little firepower to the fight. Below, I’ve got my preview, prediction, and best bet for this Sunday baseball game between the Twins and the Tigers.
Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.
Twins vs. Tigers prediction, preview
Detroit enters this primetime clash in full control, armed with the superior pitcher, sharper lineup, and every trend at their back. Tarik Skubal has been nothing short of elite. His 2.29 ERA and 0.87 WHIP tell only part of the story. The lefty owns a staggering 2.46 xFIP, a 32% strikeout rate, and the second-best walk rate in the league. He’s hammering hitters with a 30% whiff rate, limiting barrels to just 6.0%, and keeping hard contact to a manageable 31%. At Comerica, Skubal has been even better—posting a sub-2.20 ERA with 10.5 K/9 at home. The Twins aren’t built to crack him. They rank bottom-third in wRC+ against lefties, strike out 25% of the time in the split, and their hard-hit rate against southpaws sits below 30%. The Tigers should control this from pitch one.
Chris Paddack is walking into a storm. His road ERA sits at 5.48. Over his last five outings, he’s carrying a bloated 6.11 ERA with opponents smashing him for a .311 xBA and 41% hard-hit rate. Paddack’s Stuff+ has fallen to 88, and his fastball-heavy arsenal feeds right into Detroit’s strength. The Tigers have feasted on heaters, posting a .216 ISO at home in June. Spencer Torkelson, Riley Greene, and Gleyber Torres are all riding OPS marks north of .950 in the last two weeks at Comerica. The Tigers are averaging nearly seven runs per game over their last six, while Minnesota has managed just over four on the road. This is a mismatch at every level.
Tigers vs. Twins pick, best bet
Detroit’s bullpen has been quietly solid, holding late leads with a 3.40 ERA at home since mid-May. Minnesota’s relief corps, by contrast, has collapsed under pressure—5.91 ERA on the road in the same window and a brutal 39% inherited runner score rate. The Tigers should extend any lead Skubal hands them.
The betting trends make this crystal clear. Detroit is 12-4 in Skubal’s starts, covering the -1.5 run line in nine of those wins. They’ve covered in seven of their last eight at home against AL Central teams after a win. Minnesota is just 2-8 as a road dog in their last ten, failing to cover in six. The Tigers have smashed the run line in six of their last seven Sunday games at home against teams below .500. There’s no reason to expect anything different tonight.
This is the kind of game where Detroit seizes control early and buries their opponent. The Tigers’ bats are locked in, their ace is shoving, and the matchup screams value on the run line. Skubal’s dominance, Paddack’s collapse, and the Twins’ road woes align perfectly. Detroit -1.5 isn’t just the sharp play—it’s the only play. The Tigers will separate and never let Minnesota back in. I’m locked in on Detroit to win big tonight.
Best bet: Tigers -1.5 (-130) at Twins
