Two squads headed in opposite directions are set to meet tonight in Minnesota. The visiting Rangers have fallen well short of expectations, currently four games below .500. After an awful start to their season, the Twins find themselves in postseason contention. Which club will come out on top during tonight’s American League showdown? Below, I’ve laid out my preview, prediction, and best bet for this Tuesday night contest between the Rangers and Twins.
The Twins enter tonight as favorites (-126) over the Rangers, with the over/under set at nine runs. Let’s break down which side has the edge on DraftKings Sportsbook going into Tuesday’s contest.
Rangers at Twins prediction, preview
What a fascinating season this has been for Minnesota. The Twins looked abysmal to start 2025, losing 11 of their first 15 games. However, since then the team has gone 31-19, currently sitting at second in the AL Central. Key to this turnaround has been a dominant starting rotation. Right now, the team ranks seventh in baseball with a 3.51 ERA. However, the Twins won’t have their typical advantage on the mound in this one. Minnesota will hand the ball to Simeon Woods Richardson tonight. The right-hander got off to a rough start, compiling a 5.02 ERA through eight outings. After being sent down to Triple-A St. Paul, the 24-year-old was recalled on Tuesday morning by the Twins.
Woods Richardson’s numbers aren’t great, but the same can be said for his opponents tonight. This season, the Rangers are scoring just 3.36 runs per game, the third-lowest mark in baseball. Outside of Josh Smith and Wyatt Langford, every Texas hitter has a wRC+ under 100 (below-average). For weeks, the expectation was that a lineup loaded with All-Stars could eventually return to form. At this point, it’s difficult to say when, if ever, the Rangers will look like themselves again.
Fortunately, not all is lost in the Lone Star State. Texas ranks third in baseball with a 3.10 ERA, wielding one of the sport’s best pitching staffs. In a group loaded with talent, Tyler Mahle has been an early standout. The oft-injured righty, now healthy, is in the midst of a career year. Through 71.1 innings of work, the veteran has recorded a 2.02 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 53 strikeouts. Minnesota only ranks 17th in the majors with 4.25 runs scored per game. However, the team has notched baseball’s sixth-most runs since May 27th. Unlike the Rangers, eight different Twins hitters have a wRC+ over 100.

Neither of these teams possess lethal lineups, even with the Twins swinging hot bats as of late. Regardless, I’d expect Mahle to deliver on Tuesday against his old team. Woods Richardson is a bigger question mark, but the Rangers haven’t shown much of a pulse at the plate. There’s no reason to anticipate a shootout between these two clubs tonight.
