It hasn’t been the best day for the Boston Red Sox, who started off down 7-0 to the rival New York Yankees. But it’s a day rookie infielder Marcelo Mayer will never forget. The 22-year-old hit a major league tape job in the top of the fifth inning for his first career home run:
It’s a welcome sight for Mayer, the Red Sox, and the fans. The top prospect was just 6-for-33 in his career going into that at-bat. They’ll be hoping for plenty more as the Red Sox look to turn their season around.
