Wednesday’s 15-game MLB slate has plenty of action, with 30 different teams taking the field. Some of today’s biggest matchups include an ALCS rematch between the Guardians and the Yankees. Later, the Diamondbacks and Braves are facing off in a battle of playoff contenders. As a nightcap, the Mets and Dodgers meet for the third game in their West Coast series.

Jose Ramirez more than 1.5 total bases
Once again, Jose Ramirez is putting together an outstanding season. The third baseman, one of baseball’s most underrated superstars, is slashing .330/.386/.553 at the plate in 2025. In addition, he’s driven in 11 home runs and 29 RBIs in the middle of Cleveland’s lineup. If the Guardians want to take down the mighty Yankees, they’ll need J-Ram at his best. Fortunately, this is a spot the veteran has thrived in before.
On Wednesday, the Yankees will send Clarke Schmidt to the mound. It’s been a decent season for the pitcher, owner of a 3.95 ERA. However, he’s had difficulty pitching against the Guardians throughout his career. Over five starts against Cleveland, Schmidt has accounted for a mediocre 5.12 ERA. Ramirez has enjoyed this matchup, hitting .364 with a homer and 5 RBIs against the right-hander. One extra-base hit would be enough for the six-time All-Star to clear tonight’s total.
Tim Tawa less than 0.5 total bases
The Diamondbacks are a flawed team, but one thing they don’t lack? Hitting depth. Arizona ranks fourth in the league with 5.07 runs scored per game, thanks to one of baseball’s most balanced lineups. That’s kept backup Tim Tawa on the bench for most of the season. The utility man has a respectable 0.8 WAR in just 38 games, but that’s due primarily to his fielding. At the dish, the 26-year-old is hitting just .223, albeit with six homers and 14 RBIs.
Tawa isn’t a total scrub with the bat, but his offensive skills aren’t something fantasy managers should count on. That’s especially true as of late, as the rookie has only notched two hits over his last 18 at-bats. Reigning NL Cy Young winner Chris Sale is set to throw for the Braves, making this a difficult assignment for any hitter. Given his recent struggles, it makes sense to fade Tawa against one of the sport’s top arms.
Brandon Lowe more than 1.5 total bases
It’s been a terrific few weeks for the Rays, who have catapulted themselves into the American League playoff race. Tampa Bay has been carried by its pitching, but the offense has done its job as well. Leading the charge has been Brandon Lowe; since May 10th, he’s slashing .309/.364/593 with six homers and 13 RBIs. Injuries have been a major issue for the veteran, who has played more than 109 games only once during his eight-year career. Still, when healthy, few second baseman can match his level of production.
With the way Lowe has been swinging the bat, he’s worth consideration against almost any starter. That’s especially true tonight against Kumar Rocker, making his first appearance since April 23rd. It’s been a rough 2025 campaign for Texas’ young hurler, who has posted a ghastly 8.10 ERA. Rocker has difficulty against left-handed batters, surrendering a .348 batting average to southpaws throughout his career. Tampa Bay’s torrid infielder is too lethal to ignore right now in this spot.
Cade Povich more than 5.5 strikeouts
Not much has gone right for the Orioles this season, including the development of former top prospect Cade Povich. The left-hander has been unreliable so far, logging a 5.29 ERA and 1.53 WHIP over ten starts. However, he has shown a capacity to strike batters out. Over his last three outings, the 25-year-old has earned a total of 24 K’s over 15.1 innings. Even during last week’s five-run showing vs. the Cardinals, Povich still earned nine whiffs.
On paper, Povich’s inconsistency should bode well for the Mariners on Wednesday. Still, the M’s aren’t exactly a hitting juggernaut. When playing at T-Mobile Park, Seattle owns the fifth-most strikeouts per game in baseball (8.56). In addition, they have the fourth-most strikeouts this season against lefties (162). Keeping that in mind, even an erratic arm such as Povich can take advantage of this free-swinging Mariners lineup.
Kyle Harrison more than 16.5 outs
The Giants have hit just .235 since May 1st, the ninth-worst batting average in baseball during that stretch. San Francisco has remained in playoff contention thanks to its stellar pitching. After starting all 24 of his games last season, Kyle Harrison has thrown just 14.1 innings in 2024. Still, the left-hander hasn’t been bad by any means, allowing just four earned runs (2.51 ERA). An injury to Justin Verlander (pectoral) has placed the third-year pro back in the starting rotation. So far, so good: through two starts, Harrison has allowed two runs over nine innings.
Tonight, Harrison will get to face a Padres lineup that has gone ice-cold at the plate recently. However, if there’s a knock on the southpaw, it’s his inability to pitch deep into games. Last season, he averaged just over five innings per start. San Diego owns baseball’s 13th-best batting average against lefties (.234), so they aren’t completely outmatched here, either. In addition, Harrison has coughed up eight runs over 11.2 innings against the Friars in his career (6.17 ERA). Add it all up, and it’s difficult to see a lengthy outing from San Francisco’s 23-year-old hurler.
Griffin Canning more than 4.5 strikeouts
Wednesday’s nightcap is a good one, as the Mets and Dodgers will face off for the sixth time in two weeks. One of those matchups, on May 23rd, saw New York starter Griffin Canning last less than three innings while giving up three runs. It was a rough start in what has otherwise been a breakout season for the right-hander. Over 53.0 innings of work, Canning owns a 3.23 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 50 strikeouts.
With that being said, the 29-year-old hasn’t looked great recently. In three starts since May 17th, Canning has coughed up eight earned runs (6.55 ERA). In addition, the righty has had issues with the Dodgers throughout his career. Going back to his time with the Angels, Canning owns a 4.56 ERA over five outings vs. Los Angeles. It’s difficult to imagine New York’s starter lasting long enough to reach five strikeouts vs. LA tonight.
