Soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo posted a cryptic message to his social media accounts on Monday, which has left the internet wondering if he’s leaving Al-Nassr, and where he could be off to next?
“This chapter is over” certainly leads me to believe that Cristiano will be leaving the club. Ronaldo has played in the Saudi league for three seasons now after leaving Manchester United. In 75 starts for Al-Nassr, the Portuguese legend has scored 73 goals. In fact, he won the Golden Boot in the Saudi league for two consecutive seasons.
Even at 40 years old and in a less competitive league than in Europe, Ronaldo keeps himself in such amazing shape and still produces goals as he always has.
The next question is what will be the next chapter for Ronaldo? It could be retirement, or it could be a move within the Saudi league to a club like Al-Hilal. Could he potentially go back to Europe? It’s all speculation for now, but I would imagine that he will be moving to a new club ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
Cristiano will likely want to represent his country on the biggest stage for one last time, so where could he go in the meantime? Another factor is his 936 career goals. Ronaldo has publicly spoken about his desire to get to 1,000, and I doubt he would walk away when he is so close.
If I had to guess, I would imagine that Ronaldo would come back to Europe for a one or two year contract. Once the World Cup is over, it may be time to hang up his boots at 41 years old. I think he will want to play in the toughest leagues possible for the next year or so to get himself prepared for one last shot at World Cup glory.
In his post, he says the story is still being written. Ronaldo will likely leave Al-Nassr and transfer to another club this summer.
