Cleveland’s Progressive Field will host a showdown between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Cleveland Guardians tonight. The Dodgers, though reeling from a few recent losses in Citi Field, bring elite firepower and pitching that always demands respect. Though, Cleveland has been pretty good at home! Below, I’ve got my preview, prediction, and best bet for this Monday night interleague baseball game between the Guardians and the Dodgers.
Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.
Guardians vs. Dodgers prediction, preview
Los Angeles enters this matchup with one of the league’s most dynamic offenses, powered by the bat of Shohei Ohtani—homered last night in NYC—and complemented by Freddie Freeman’s scorching .357 average. They’ll be looking for a resurgence after a series of frustrating losses, but the Guardians—led by José Ramírez’s red-hot bat—are no pushovers, especially at home.
On the mound, the Dodgers will send out Yoshinobu Yamamoto, arguably their ace, with a 1.86 ERA and a WHIP of 0.91 through 58 innings. His command has been surgical this season, limiting batters to just a .172 average. Yamamoto’s consistency, especially in high-leverage situations, gives Los Angeles a massive edge. Gavin Williams, on the other hand, has struggled when facing teams like the Dodgers. Despite a solid 3.94 ERA, he’s given up seven home runs this season, and his career numbers against Los Angeles—an 18.00 ERA in two starts—are concerning. With the Dodgers’ potent lineup, Williams may find himself quickly in a hole, especially with the likes of Ohtani, Mookie Betts, and Teoscar Hernández lurking.
At the plate, the Guardians will lean heavily on José Ramírez, who is on an 18-game hitting streak, and Steven Kwan, who is batting .320 this season. However, the Guardians’ offense has been anemic for much of the year, ranking just 23rd in runs per game and 25th in team batting average. They face a tough test against Yamamoto, whose mix of velocity and control makes him a nightmare for right-handed batters. While the Guardians may capitalize on the occasional mistake, their lack of consistent offense, combined with their subpar hitting against high-caliber pitchers, puts them at a distinct disadvantage.
Dodgers vs. Guardians pick, best bet
Defensively, the Dodgers have committed their fair share of errors recently, but their overall fielding remains solid. The Guardians, however, have struggled with defensive efficiency and rank 27th in the league in that category. This could prove costly, especially against an offense as relentless as Los Angeles’—they’ve averaged 5.7 runs per game, second in the league.
Betting insights support the Dodgers’ dominance in this matchup. Los Angeles has been strong against right-handed starters this season, while Cleveland struggles against top-tier pitching. The Dodgers are 4-1 in their last five against Cleveland and have a significant edge in the bullpen as well, where their relievers have been more effective, despite some recent fatigue. Given the Dodgers’ superior offense and Yamamoto’s elite pitching, they should be able to cover the run line.
And so we’ll expect the Dodgers to assert their dominance tonight. Strong offensive showings and another solid performance from Yamamoto. We bet against them last night for Sunday Night Baseball, and we’re taking them on the rebound today. Let’s go.
Best bet: Dodgers -1.5 (+105) at Guardians
