It hasn’t been a banner year for the Boston Red Sox, but the Baltimore Orioles aren’t exactly having a good time either.
The O’s have already fired a manager and possess the second-worst record in the American League, ahead of only the Chicago White Sox. It’s already a lost season in Baltimore, a dire outcome after playoff and possible World Series expectations.
The Red Sox hoped to be better than hovering around .500. Alex Bregman has been great, Rafael Devers is tearing the cover off the ball, but this team has holes. They’ll need some work if they want to make up ground on their rivals, the division-leading Yankees.

Zach Eflin was supposed to be the ace in Baltimore this season. Instead, his ERA is over five. This entire Orioles’ staff is having a hard time keeping runs off the board. And for the Red Sox, rookie Hunter Dobbins has looked good in the early going, but I have a hard time trusting the young guys.
I’m counting on both teams to do some numbers in Fenway Park, where runs pile up quickly. That over 9.5 total is lofty for a game not being played in Coors Field, but it’s that high for a reason. It won’t be over 20 runs like today, but even half would do. I’m not being greedy.
